My wife and I visited here on a recommendation from a friend. It is a busy spot great for people watching. The salmon tartar appetizer was amazing but the scar got were disappointing- small with at too much cheese that smothered the flavours. The bison rib eye was wonderful Good wine list. Fair value. Service good though waiter was a... More

We decided to dine here in close proximity to our hotel in Old Montreal, because it was very wet and cold outside. A wise choice, we sat at a table on ground floor and watched the flow of people along either rue St.Paul or rue St. Gabriel whilst being served a first class meal and enjoying a glass or two... We were n a tour of Quebec and staying in Montreal one day we had dinner in this fine restaurant in Old Montreal. VERY busy and they can handle groups. Some of the hardest working servers I've seen. Very difficult getting dinners on the second and third floors but they did a great job. SteKs were very good.

Wonderful grilled juicy ribeye. Quaint place with locals and tourists. Leisurely dinner. If you are in a hurry not the place to go. Lobster bisque hot and good. Fresh hot bread and reL butter. My latte was too strong for my liking but if you like strong coffee you would like it.

My wife and I stopped by Vieux- Port Steakhouse for lunch on Sunday 11th September 2016. As soon as we arrived we were given a lovely table which served as a great people watching spot as we were right in the corner of the restaurant looking out on the crossroad of rue St. Paul and rue St. Gabriel. There was... More

This place is wonderful! We came in after a long day of sightseeing and walking. We were seated immediately in the patio area which is lovely. Our service was attentive without being pushy. With wine in hand, we ordered our dinners, filet medallions for me and osso bucco for my hubby. Both dinners were cooked perfectly and really delicious. This... More

We have just returned from a 3 week visit to Montreal, Quebec and Nova Scotia and this was easily our worst dining experience. We were recommended to this restaurant by our hotel and although the location was very convenient, in the heart of the old port, our visit was very disappointing. The food was average, took a long time to... More

A beautiful location, amazing restaurant...One I will take my family to. French Onion Soup was delicious, leaving me wanting more. I also had the 2 medallion filet. I have an allergy and they were so accommodating! Great service and atmosphere!

What a gem! We stumbled onto this quaint restaurant about1:30, really hungry, and hoping for a patio, despite warnings of rain. The food was good, served up quickly, wine pleasing and all served in a friendly manner by Steve. Kept us going for the afternoon.

More than a restaurant, we're an institution. Quality cuts, cooked to perfection for over three decades. All our beef is AAA Canadian Certified and aged for at least 30 days.

You'll love the classic atmosphere, warm and welcoming. We're situated directly on St. Paul Street in a beautiful, century-old structure.

Inside, you're greeted by old stone walls, wood floors, cozy fireplaces and an attentive staff.
With a capacity of up to 1 000 and one of the nicest terraces in Old Montreal, we're the ideal venue for groups, weddings and other social gatherings.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
