This is a really neat place in old Montreal. Food was good but nothing special. 12 of us dinned. Lamb was average. Filet was OK. Two ordered ribeye. One sent it back because it was cold. The other because it wasn't cooked enough. Still nice spot for dinner.

Excellent choose!!!! We were walking in the area and found this place by chance in front of our noses. We took the alternative since we were hungry and everything went excellent. The attention of the concierge, the waitress, the food was top of the line and the conversation with my friends was exquisite. I definitely recommend this restaurant in Montreal.

We fancied steak so chose to come here....what a mistake! The seating hostess couldn't have been more surly if she'd tried and once seated we were then ignored for quite a while.....and this was not a busy night. But things then moved up quite a few gears as the waiter said "your steaks will be right out" as he was... More

There is a management problem here. At the entrance, no fewer than four people were vying for control of where to place customers. There is a new tech available to allow maitre-d's, waiters, busboys to input and see the status of all tables on personal tablets. Maybe the staff should have those, especially since there are four discrete areas in... More

Went for dinner and chose the lighter baked halibut over a steak dinner. We also opted for the lovely and large terrace at the back which is on the quieter side street. The patio lights were on, music was playing and it was a lovely atmosphere. I had calamari to start which were lovely. Not too much batter, and lightly... More

Very busy restaurant, quaint and traditional. We all opted for the steaks of which there are a good choice. We weren't disappointed the steaks were great, but the presentation could have been better.

Went for lunch and had the Table d'haut, which included three courses and tea/coffee. We both had Baseball steak, cooked perfectly. I had rare my wife had medium rare. Charming old restaurant in the old town, excellent service...although the waiter did question my wife about not leaving a tip when she paid by debit? We had left a cash tip... More

My husband and I both had steaks here; I had the filet mignon with mushroom sauce which was lovely and cooked to perfection (med rare), my husband had the sirloin (as big as a baseball) and his was also fantastic. The garlic mashed potatoes and veg just finished the dishes off perfectly. Both meals were full of flavour! We also... More

More than a restaurant, we're an institution. Quality cuts, cooked to perfection for over three decades. All our beef is AAA Canadian Certified and aged for at least 30 days.

You'll love the classic atmosphere, warm and welcoming. We're situated directly on St. Paul Street in a beautiful, century-old structure.

Inside, you're greeted by old stone walls, wood floors, cozy fireplaces and an attentive staff.
With a capacity of up to 1 000 and one of the nicest terraces in Old Montreal, we're the ideal venue for groups, weddings and other social gatherings.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
