The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Could understand and speak English good as well. The ham and cheese sandwich that I had was one of the best I've had and was extremely filling too.

Both my husband and I wanted to have a light lunch, and we came to Marche de la Villette upon recommendation from TripAdvisor. We were able to sit down right away, which was a plus as it was a VERY busy Saturday in Old Montreal. There were many tables in the small restaurant, as well as a deli counter. Decor... More

Went to Marche de la Villette twice. Once for lunch, which we enjoyed. Good service. Fun, bistro, bustling place in Old Montreal. The second time, we had a charcuterie platter to go, for a pre-dinner snack. I was terribly (!!!) sick the next day and I am absolutely certain it was from the pate in the platter. My traveling companion... More

My wife and I stopped here to eat not knowing what to expect, just using our instinct, it was a good idea. We ate and drinked until there was no more room left for desert and stil had desert, TWICE...hahaha...I strongly recommend this small cute french joint. You can buy french mustard, cheese, salami and biscuites to take home. We... More

This was a fun stop for lunch, conveniently located in Vieux Montreal. The restaurant was decorated in a pleasantly over the top Parisian charcuterie style, with tons of French bric-a-brac and food to look at on the walls and in the deli case. Service and figuring out how to order and pay were slightly chaotic, but things did work out... More

We happened upon this restaurant when the place we picked was closed on a Sunday morning. It is very French -- decorations as well as menu. I had an excellent crepe with Nutella and fruit. My husband enjoyed a Cassoulet; our friend enjoyed his Bacon & Eggs. The French bread was excellent. I think you'll like it!

We had just arrived in Montreal and we were looking for somewhere to have a casual brunch and we walked by and decided to stop. The atmosphere and food were both very good. We had Croque Madame with a very nice salad and loved it.

Stumbled upon this little gem on our last morning in Montreal... I have nothing but amazing things to say. Please if you find yourself in Old Montreal, go here for brunch - although they offer other meals, this is what we had and were not disappointed.

We went twice while in Old Montreal. First for dinner. Julie, our server was amazing! Super friendly and anxious to answer questions and explain the French menu. We had the most delicious meat and cheese board...,beautifully displayed!! We ordered a pitcher of sangria which was perfect with our meal. We went back two days later for lunch and Julie recognized... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
