I had pork schnitzel and my wife had a vegetarian pasta dish ... both were excellent as were our cocktails. Service and ambience were great. Not a bargain, but worth the price.

After a long, 8-hour drive, a good meal was in order. Found this place on Yelp and decided to try it because it's listed as New Canadian and had 4.5 stars. I sat at the bar. The bartender/owner was very busy but multi-tasked keeping his customers at the bar entertained while intermittently taking orders, mixing drinks, and shucking oysters. The... More

L'Original is definitely not your ordinary menu, as you may have gathered from the reviews. Agree wholeheartedly that service can be hit or miss. The night we went, there seemed to be only two servers and a "runner" trying to keep up with all the orders. The place has a cool vibe, is upscale casual made up to look like... More

We've had two outstanding meals on this trip and was hoping that this would be the third. Nevertheless, in this cases, three is not a charm. Our cocktails were watered down for starters...not a good way to start in a place that boasts about its cocktails! We ordered the rabbit and foie gras parfait to start. This was excellent, though... Food was pretty good, nothing amazing from what we ate but still quite tasty. Drinks were ok (a bit overpriced but I understand the nature of the neighborhood we are eating in), service was lackluster. Our server was a bit condescending when I pointed out original drink was made wrong and also seemed inconvenienced at times when we had questions.... More

We ate here after a recommendation from some foodie type friends. We debated several restaurants, most of them "stuffier" with great ratings. My idea of a good night of eating out is 1/3 fun and laughter, 1/3 atmosphere and ambiance, and 1/3 food. L'Original hit it out of the park! This is a brother and sister venture and we were... More

If you're in to maple old-fashioned, this is the place to order it. Appetizers, entrees and dessert were high quality. Got the cod for my entree, which came with a cauliflower purée, which was delicious. The place has a cool vibe, is upscale casual, and plays hits from the 90s. Enjoyable evening at L'Orignal.

First, the food was excellent. It's a small and cozy restaurant but very loud when full. And the martinies were the smallest (not in cost) that my husband and I have ever been served, a teeny martini. Overall, it was a nice place o have dinner on a rainy Saturday night.

The menu features extensive game options and has something for those who aren't so meat inclined. Many of the appetizers were not "shareable" based on their form which was a disappointment. Our meals were very good and were promptly brought out but after we received our meals there was no check in. It took 20+ minutes from when we both... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
