My wife and I really enjoyed our meal here. Besides the food, the maple olde fashions were especially tasty. Great date night spot.

Dined here last night in a group of 4. I got there early, so I decided to check out some reviews on trip advisor about this place while I waited for the others to arrive. I noticed someone a few posts below me was unhappy with where they were seated, complaining it was the worst seat in the house and... More

We had a very wonderful dinner at L'Orignal. Restaurant was not very crowded on a Sunday evening, and we so enjoyed the music playlist, which happened for us so many times in Montreal. Good service, great ambiance, be sure to give it a try if you are in Montreal.

Fantastic find for a second sitting late night diner . Food delicious in ambient setting . Fabulous music and excellent atmosphere. The service was exemplary . We had such a fine meal and finished the night with some excellent complimentary digestives . Won't forget it .

There is a reason why l'orignal struggles to fill their restaurant and fails to turn tables so consistently meanwhile places like garde manger, au pied de cochon, and joe beef cannot meet the vast demand for customers wishing to dine at them. The reason? Service. When I went to l'orignal on July 1 I was appalled at how poorly I... More

The ambiance was great, cool decor and great service. My dish was fantastic but my husband ordered the pasta special and it was pretty subpar. If his dish had been better they would have got 5 stars.

We enjoyed a nice dinner at L'Orignal our first night in town. I chose the restaurant as much because of it's proximity to the hotel as anything. The decorations in the smallish establishment are I'd call them north woods rustic... very cute. The menu is meat centric which is fine by me. The server was very pleasant and took good... More

Bartender/Owner was great! The place was a bit busy for a Thursday night but not overwhelming. Service was prompt and engaging. Food was classic with a modern twist. If you're looking for a fun night out in Montreal, this is a great first stop.

Had a very pleasant work dinner with a colleague of mine and we were not dissapointed. A nice place to sit at is the bar as it gives you a chance to converse with the staff. They also give you the inside edge on menu preferences and their favorites. For starters, their "Big Mac" beef tartar is worth the trip... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
