Before a play at the Centaur (see my review of Centaur), we dropped into Olive & Gourmando. What an experience! VERY popular, so good thing we went early. A happening place for sure! I had the Cuban sandwich, what a taste experience that was! But don't tell your doctor! <grin> Bear in mind this is not inexpensive, but worth it.... More

Visited Montreal for a few days and whilst out scavenging for breakfast on Saturday morning we noticed a small crowd forming in the summer sunshine on a street corner. We popped our heads inside and liked what we saw, so we added our names to the list, were warned the wait was 45 minutes, and started to play around with... More

This place was recommended by the staff at our hotel. We waited for a table, even though it was mid afternoon, and it was so worth it! The sandwiches were amazing and the coffee excellent. Unique flavours and combinations. Lots of yummy pastries to choose from. Will definitely go again next time we're in Montreal.

Olive & Gourmando is one of the city's buzziest dining destinations and with good reason. I was there dining alone beating the lunchtime rush. There might be a small wait, but it's totally worth it. The cafe and bakery has such a warm and cozy atmosphere, with its fun and eclectic style, and chalkboard walls. The food is beyond superb... More

Tried this place during my first visit to Montreal. It was very nice visit and very delicious bread and muffins. You have to try it specially in cold weather which is the case Everytime :) in Montreal.

In a great location at the Old Montreal you will find this great small pastry coffee cozy corner for breakfast or brunch. The French style pastry is very good, coffee is excellent and egg panini with chipotle is my favourite! The cafe is quite charming with simple but detailed decoration. If you go for breakfast go early to avoid a... More

This is THE place in the old city to start your day in Montreal, and lunch here is pretty terrific also. The baked goods are wonderful. So are the coffees, salads, sandwiches and everything else they have to offer. The decor is warm and cozy. The service is great. Pay at the register when you leave and drop your tip... More

We stumbled upon this place touring Old Montreal, I had a hot panini (The Pomme de luxe!) with some of the famous Joe Beef ham, local Quebec apples, tangy garlic vinaigrette, Île-aux-Grues cheddar and paired it with a Ginger infused iced tea... it was incredible! Great spot for lunch!

The café was recommended to us but not worth the long walk from our hotel on St. Denis at Rue Sainte-Catherine. The food was nice but overpriced, the restaurant quirky but crowded, noisy and tables too close together. I had a cheezy scone and a fresh squeezed o.j., my husband had the yogurt with fresh fruit and a double espresso.... More

While staying at the nearby Hotel Gault we enjoyed coffee and pastries at this charming cafe. Excellent chocolate brioche and cappuccino as well as yogurt and granola. I'm sorry we did not try the lunch sandwiches. Great little spot with wonderful happy staff.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
