Stumbled upon this one snowy Montreal afternoon. It was warm and cozy inside and my salad was one of the best I have ever eaten. Service was not excellent, but nowhere in Montreal is it really.... Food choices and environment win for this special old Montreal spot.

We came by chance and had a good brunch here. The food is delicious. The coffee smells good. But it was too crowded by tourists and locals so the service was too busy...

This is a bustling, popular restaurant, full of tourists and locals. Incredible food and great service! We enjoyed our afternoon lunch there both with the food and the people watching. Just beware, the line is almost always out the door for seating!

I had read about how wonderful the restaurant was and looked forward to having breakfast there during a recent visit to Montreal. It was not busy when we arrived just after opening on a weekday. We were seated at a 'wobbly' table and when we proceeded to order a 'regular' drip coffee we were told that the machine was broken... More

I wish I could rate this place a zero because I would. We walked in, a group of 6 people and were promptly greeted by a very ignorant man who refused to seat us because we were a group a 6. With many available 2 person tables and 4 person tables, we offered to split up and sit in any... More

The place was cute the food was good but $30+ for breakfast with no alcohol is a bit much. Plus the place gets really busy so there is quite a wait

Popped in at 1pm for lunch and it was crowded. It took a minute to put our name in and we were told 20-30 minutes. As we weren't in a rush and saw lots of locals we waited. It seemed as if locals were given preference over tourists. On one hand I get this; the locals are their bread and... More

The line was 45 minutes long, and we got there 15 minutes after they opened (9:00). I got pastries while we waited for our table, and I'm glad since it took a while. Everything I wanted kept selling out before I got to the front of the line. The palmier was wonderful! The apple-chai-caramel brioche was good, but I could... More

I know that this place has a bit of a celeb-sighting cult following, but I didn't know anything about that the first time I stumbled in with some friends. The place is busy, yes, but I have been here three times and have never had to wait more than 20 minutes, which seems reasonable for a meal that you know... More

We came at 2pm on Boxing Day, and man was it packed. The waiting area is tiny, you feel like a sardine. There are only 2 seats and everyone else stands. But it was better to wait indoors than walk further in freezing rain, so we waited. It was only about 25 min, but it felt a lot longer. Be... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
