I’m not overly prone to leaving negative reviews on here, however after a recent experience at this restaurant on Sunday for a late lunch in an empty restaurant I felt obliged. The restaurant is pretty on the inside, a nice central bar, good young staff, but where it should matter most is in its food which unfortunately came up more... More

I met some colleagues for a breakfast meeting. The location is handy, the service is great, the food is average. You can order either off the menu or the breakfast buffet. We chose the buffet and the food was mediocre. If you're looking for "filler" this is a good option. If you're looking for a good breakfast, there are other... More

We eat at L'Aromate often as we stay at the St. Martin when we travel in Montreal. Great service/staff and excellent food. Fantastic when it is warm and they open the front windows. Very nice wine and beer as well as liquor selection

Staying in the lovely adjacent (connected) Hotel Le St Martin, we went to L'Aromate for Sunday brunch, when they had a buffet (I believe about $20 or $25.00). We would have paid that, but were astonished when they said that the price for our 2 yr old would be half that (and they did not really even have any kid... More

This restaurant was in our hotel so very convenient. While the patio was street side, there was still a wide bike lane keeping you separate from the vehicular traffic. Service started out a bit sketchy but once the fellow came over the first time and was engaging in conversation it was much much better. We had a warm pasta dish... More

I woke up hungry after arriving in town late the night before and this was just what I wanted. The salmon was lovely. It was very Jackson Pollack in presentation which was not unattractive but it was the flavor that won me over. The waitress was surly unfortunately, but I didn't let it bother me, just wondered if it was... More

The food isn't fresh! Salad was wilted. Main course seafood was not fresh. Some frozen others questionable. Meat was over cooked , too much oil left a puddle on the plate. Presentation was poor..mushrooms were ground into a paste and looked like baby poop on a plate. Service was good. Ambiance was horrible with exceptionally loud music and screaming conversation... We have all gone to restaurants and been met with indifference in both treatment and food and this one serves up both in spades. The service is perfunctory and the food is so ordinary one wonders how they stay open. And all wrapped up in a sad, passé, Euro-trash atmosphere. Oubliable.

The food here is generally pretty good with some nice creativity. I've never been disappointed, but service may be a bit slow during busy hours.

We nearly cancelled our booking before we sat down. The noise levels in the restaurant were enormous. And the music a heavy electronic disco beat. We had a drink in the bar and negotiated a table upstairs where noise levels were a little lower. Service was friendly and professional and the quality of the food good. Leaving aside the background... More

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
