Lobster on the Wharf, the seafood restaurant with an amazing view of the Charlottetown harbour and a menu that offers something for all tastes. Although we have over 30 years' experience, our restaurant and seafood market were almost totally rebuilt in 2004 after Hurricane Juan. With the freshest of lobster taken live from our adjoining seafood market.

Excellent meal

Excellent meal of lobster served with two sides. The crab cakes we ordered had little crab meat in them. The service was good. The lobster bisque had too much aniseed flavour in it , I wouldn’t order it again.

The Best Waterfront Deck in Charlottetown!

The new owners of this landmark bistro continue to deliver an outstanding lobster dinner, splendid service, and beautiful harbour views on the best deck in town. They are still working with many of the original staff and have exciting plans to upgrade their patios on the waterfront. Locals and future cruise ship visitors will love this real Island experience!

The first night of our stay on PEI we had dinner at Lobster on the Wharf in Charlottetown. The four of us - my husband & I and the couple we're traveling with - all enjoyed our meals. We'd been looking forward to PEI oysters that we'd heard so much about and our first experience did not disappoint. The shipwreck oysters were delicious! Our other orders included mussels, Atlantic salmon, and scallops wrapped in bacon - all very good, especially the scallops, and the French fries were amazing! Our waitress, Paris, was professional, attentive and interesting to chat with. With its unfussy, relaxed atmosphere, fantastic view of the harbor, and wide variety of seafood offerings, Lobster on the Wharf is an excellent choice for dining out in Charlottetown.

If you’re looking for a charming and delicious seafood meal, keep going. The setting is nice and waitress also very pleasant, but all of the meals were quite disappointing, particularly if you are gluten sensitive. They advertise a number of gluten free options, but that is pretty much just the boiled/broiled seafood. There is a $2.90 up charge for a sad gluten free bun, $4.00 up charge for salad in place of gluten-containing coleslaw and fries (ie all prepackaged, premixed), soda refills cost same as first. Lots of I’m sorries and we can’t do that. Lobster roll plain, tasteless, tough, shelly. Lettuce and mayonnaise would have been better actually. Fish and chips breaded grease-soaked basket. Seafood chowder overcooked with some hint of unidentifiable seafood in there somewhere.

Waited over an hour for nothing

As someone already wrote in a review, management and staff just don't care. We were a group of three who entered at 6:45 PM (the place closes at 9:00 PM) and were told may be a 20/30 minute wait. As first time visitors we decided to wait. And we waited and waited. Then just before 8:00 PM we were told a table was getting prepared for us. Just a few minutes after 8:00 PM we were unapologetically told our wait time was now 30 to 40 minutes as some late reservist just came in plus the kitchen was backlogged serving a huge bus tour. If we had been told that at the beginning instead of having been needlessly strung along we could have went somewhere else We were the first in line by 8:00 PM with about a dozen unhappy people behind us. We will never set foot foot in this place again.

Tourist Trap!

An Extremely disappointed experience at this restaurant, and it is definitely a Tourist Trap !! We truly regret to visit this restaurant after seeing the advertisement on PEI tourist brochure. Starting with meeting rude staffs at the entrance of the restaurant, waiting for long time to be served even though the restaurant was not busy at all (about 20% full). Waiting for more than an hour and half to get the food finally .. the mussels and clams were not taste fresh and they had a lot of sand.. also, many empty shells were on the plates. This was quite tricky! The lobsters were just ok, but the side dishes (coleslaw & potato salad & French fries) were horrible and dry. The veggies had a lot of sand too. We saw one of the restaurant staffs just caught a BIG RAT at the hallway! We feel very, very disgusting about the food! The food is quite expensive, the services and food quality is very disappointing, and the restaurant cleanliness is highly questionable!! If you don’t want to waste your precious time and be frustrating to receive a very unpleasant experience, I urge you please go somewhere else where you can enjoy the harbour views. The money you spent at other restaurants will be much worthwhile!!

Mediocre food, nice view

If you want a nice view, this is your place. However, the food was disappointing at best. The lobster was chewy and gummy, the mussels were OK but dry. The steamed veggies were worse than what comes out of a can. The kids meals took forever to come out and when it finally did, the burger was burnt. How can you serve burnt food? The whole experience was very disappointing and it was pricey as well.

A big letdown

Six adults and only two decent meals. The crab cakes , fish tacos and two pattie hamburger all were overcooked and dry , the hamburger was inedible. The fish and chips were the only meal fit to eat. It’s a shame that a beautiful location is spoiled by a poor quality restaurant. The server was inexperienced, the service slow and the decor nothing special. Cannot recommend eating here.

Terrible food and service - find a better place!

We have eaten at many restaurants in the area and this was by far the worst food and service we have had. The potato salad and runny coleslaw were clearly store bought from the grocery store and very disappointing. The lobster roll was more roll than lobster. This is by far the worst lobster roll in the area. Our server was very kind but not attentive and extremely slow. We were all freezing by the time we left as we had to ask for everything twice and waited for so long. Coffee had to be requested several times, the rolls were not offered so we requested them also. The soup was the tiniest portion. People that came in after us received their food prior to us and were done, paid and gone before we even received our food. We won’t be back. Great location overlooking the water but avoid it ! Expensive overpriced grocery store food! The washroom was dirtier than an outhouse! There was toilet paper all over the bathroom - on the counter, floor, toilets Not flushed - disgusting! There are so many other great places to try!

Too expensive for average food

Went to this restaurant on my birthday. The food was average and honestly nothing to write home about. The service and staff were friendly, but at the end of the day the $200 bill felt like money wasted. The only item we all liked was the chowder which was reasonably hot and steamy. Rest of the food was more meh than anything else and it was also not piping hot as it should have been. Very disappointed and would not visit again.

Unfortunately, we had a very inattentive server who basically brought the food and nothing else. No water, no check in to see how the food was, no asking about a second drink. He didn’t even clear the appetizer bowl. The lobster was fine and the side dishes tasty. With one drink each, $150. A lot for bad service.

Tasteless lobster roll

It sure how this happened, but the lobster roll had NO TASTE. I think it was put in a light bleach solution (this is sometimes done with seafood/fish if it past it’s prime). It was the oddest experience. I’ve had great lobster rolls on this vacation, but at this establishment it was void of taste and smell. There were nice chunks of lobster meat but it had no taste. Service was nice and we sat in the pier so it was a great setting. I would not recommend this establishment.

Serving 42 people - lobster primary choice of most, was pre-cracked and tasty. The full lobster experience of bibs, shell buckets, yummy chowder, and good portions. The house white wine better than average.

Going downhill, likely won't be back

We go every year to lobster on the wharf. Food was ok at best. Service was not good. Our server Riley really couldn't have cared less about what he was doing. when he brought the bill, he stared at the pinpad while my husband entered the tip amount. at least he had the good sense to look away when he entered his pin. When we asked for additional butter and salad dressing, he repeatedly forgot. I know staff is hard to come by nowadays, but this guy was awful.

Overpriced landmark

Went to enjoy a fresh lobster, paid $80 and yet it was just slapped down in the table ( and our table was behind the swinging door not ideal with a highchair ) No instructions or manners on how to crack it open. Barely got five pieces of veggies, yet I could walk down to the ocean and get a fresh lobster for $30. Disappointed and so should the owners.
