I was, in fact, taken here for lunch on a Friday by some business contacts. The service was brisk, which is good if you are short of time. Water was offered straight away and rather than having to ask for tap water, this was what was offered, which was a plus point. I chose the special fish dish, a beautifully... More

We were 18 in all. Yet the service was impeccable. The server presented us with separate checks -- all correct despite the fact that he took our original orders all in one bloc. And he absolutely remembered our individual drinks when we ordered another round. Amazine! That is the service. As for the food, there is a distinct focus on... More

My 24-year-old son chose this restaurant to meet me for his birthday lunch. You can expect attentive and knowledgeable service, excellent food, and high (but given the quality, fair) prices. This is clearly a lunch spot for people who like to hear their lunchtime conversations and enjoy good food at the same time. The decor is interesting (e.g. "tufted" red... More

I recently met up with my husband here for lunch here and it turned out to be one of the most romantic impromptu meals we've had in a while. The decor is so chic. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable. And the food, of course, delectable. I'm a sucker for ravioli, so I ordered that. It was so good! My... More

Vertical never fails, the wild boar paparadella will always be a favourite of mine :) Impeccable wine, amarone and grappa listings complete the meal superbly. The salad, light and tasty!! Always enjoy the restaurant!!

I recently had lunch with my business group and I was pleasantly surprised. Though nothing oustanding on the exterior from an appearance standpoint, I love the uber chic design of this restaurant! As it is in the heart of the financial district, no surprise that the portions are small and expensive ( i.e. $25+ for pasta.) The service was excellent... More

We braved the subzero cold to walk from our hotel to the restaurant due to the menu that looked interesting and due to the fact that they could accommodate our group right away. The trek was so worth it! Our server was Johnny - knowledgeable, attentive, and entertaining! Our meals were a delight - perfectly prepared and served. The table... More

I've had many a great meal at the Vertical Restaurant. This week, I decided to have a glass of wine with an old chum. The wine and drink list is excellent and we both were served our choices. Regrettably, the service was indifferent at best. The bartender took our drink order, never asked if we were interested in ordering munchies... More

I visited Vertical restaurant before a show in downtown Toronto. I had never been there before and I have to say--- the dinner was absolutely perfect from start to finish! The service, the presentation, the quality of ingredients and unique taste combinations...unforgettable. Truly. And the ambiance is urban sophistication. There is also a lively, trendy bar area that made me... More

Ate here last night with three colleagues and we all agreed it was an excellent place. The Vertical Ceasar cocktail was spicy, tasty and just right after a long day. For main course I had suckling pig. This was seriously good and cooked to perfection. So you know my colleague's had the gnocchi, pappardelle (with slow braised wild boar) and... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
