I love going to Fran's for breakfast when I'm in downtown Toronto. The prices are good and it's in the old NY-Style diner like in the TV Sitcom Seinfeld. Its perfectly acceptable here to go in for a piece of pie and a milkshake. There are 3 locations in the downtown core.

My husband and I went there for breakfast. There was a lineup but it was worth the wait. Once we were seated and our order was taken our order arrived quickly. The portions are large. Waffles are deliciouS!!

Great classic diner feel. The service was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed the Canadian eggs Benedict and just had to try Frans own ketchup on the potatoes. The person with me decided to order a Reuben that also looked excellent.

casual atmosphere with great comfort food 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. one of my favourites when visiting Toronto. Great breakfast with plenty of food served on a platter. All the menu items are very affordable which is great to find in the downtown area of Toronto (across from Massey Hall, down the street from Ed Mirvish Theatre)

This place is always busy. Huge portions and pretty good food. Pumpkin pie was to die for. Staff really need to smile a bit more. Great value for money

I wanted to end a very pleasant day in Toronto with a nice cocktail but I'm afraid the Tom Collins I was served at Fran's Restaurant & Bar failed to deliver on every single front. This was a deeply unpleasant experience - a tumblerful of lurid bright green liquid which was turned out to be almost neat lime juice which... More

The staff were nice and the menu was large. The atmosphere was also great. My first taste of home fries and I thought they were great esp with the chilli sauce but husband preferred them elsewhere so maybe my lack of comparison hinders my review of those. Although I really liked them. The eggs were cooked well. The French toast... More

Had lunch here during our visit. Had a large menu of breakfast and lunchtime favorites. Portions were large and food was good. Diner atmosphere that is a 24 hour operation. Service and prices were good and given the chance to visit Toronto may even return here.

I have been going to Fran's for over 45 years; I usually drop by at least once when visiting Toronto. All mealtimes work well here with an excellent choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Service is always topnotch, the place is clean as can be, prices remain affordable, there is a good beer and wine list, it is always open,... More

We visited here a couple of times while in Toronto. The service was friendly, efficient and we appreciated the slightly slower pace than is often the case in the USA. The food is very much Italian/American diner variety but we enjoyed it and it was good value for money. The real test, is would we go back, which we did.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
