Had Breakfast one morning here on our three day trip. Place was busy and seemed to be a bit chaotic our server was all over the place and we had to chase her up to get served and to get extra coffee. Breakfast to be fair was tasty but was served to us in a hurry and we felt as... More

After a late night arrival in Toronto (around midnight) a friend and I checked into the hotel and immediately inquired as to the availability of late night restaurants. We were advised by the front desk clerk that Fran's was the nearest 24-hour establishment where we might grab a bite to eat. Fran's is more of a diner which offers all... More

Nice outdoor eating area. Service prompt and friendly. Good vibe with good piped music. Food good pub standard and smallish wine list but no issues.

What can I say about the service? We were greeted with a smile, assigned our table and within seconds our host was there taking our beverage order. Looking for my favorite meal, from more years back than I want to remember I found it "The Legendary Banquet Burger". Knowing that Fran's invented the Banquet Burger more than 75 years ago... More

I was fairly dissatisfied. After hearing people rave about this place, granted it was a different location, I was excited to try. Now I'm excited to never try again. From the moment we walked through the door he service was low to none. The food took a substantial amount of time to finds its way to the table and it... More

We just returned from a tour of Niagara Falls and needed a late dinner. We were walking down Carlton which turns into College and Fran's bright light marquee caught our attention. Several people, mostly college students walked in ahead of us. According to the history in the menu, this establishment has been in Toronto since 1940. Our server, Helen, was... More

We stayed at the Marriott and found Fran's on our last morning. Our waitress was really hard working and attentive. We both had waffles, which where the best I've ever tasted! Orange juice was very nice and even the filtered coffee was great. We only had one problem..... We didn't find this place until our last day!

I have been walking past this restaurant for years. Someone tipped me off to the Upper deck - Fran's roof top patio. There is plenty of room, an ok menu of drinks, beer and wine. The service we had was great. We went back today and it was not open (too hot) so we had drinks on the second floor... More

My friends and I went here very early in the morning after a night of dancing. We were up dancing until 4 am and needed to grab a bite to eat, not many places are open so late, so this is a convenient location. They serve all sorts of food at all sorts of hours, there's no cut off hour... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
