I had both a breakfast and a dinner at Fran's. Both were very good. The eggs, bacon, and toast were all great. For dinner, the chicken club was excellent and the fries very plentiful. I would definitely go back again.

Excellent food, service and fair price. We found this great little diner last time we were here and made sure to come back. Try the maple bacon!

Kristen and i were in Toronto for the weekend and after some Yelp and TripAdvisor research decided to try Fran;s for Breakfast. Open since 1940, this a cool spot for breakfast. Service was prompt although our first cup of decaf coffee was brought out ice cold and had to be returned. Kristen got the Western Omelette with potatoes(don't miss the... More

The food here is yummy and the portions are a bit on the larger side. The service was really slow, but the server was friendly and helpful.

Don't be surprised if you run into FLO! This is a recreation fifties diner with a wonderful 50s Diner menu. This is simple good old fashioned eats, accompanied with jukebox music, and cola-floats and milkshakes! The service is very good. Prices are quite normal. It does get very busy as it is very popular. Going a little off of noon... More

Above Fran's at 20 College there are two levels, now called The Upper Deck. Only two weeks old, The first level is an interior....roomy and attractive space with a wonderful sit up bar and lots of tables for dining. Above that there is a huge covered deck and bar. The entire end looking out on College street is open. Upper... More

Perfect place to find good food and shear the time with good friends. No matter what you may have here. It's fantastic. Try the club with home fries. Gravy on the side with a strawberry milk shake

My second time here. Food is delicious and so is the service. Our waiter was extremely friendly, and funny. I would return in a heart beat. Accessible from the hotel within walking distance.

We come here a lot for breakfast/brunch. Decent prices and unlimited coffee. Only cons are: 1-lack of much outdoor seating 2-busy waitresses means it's tough to get your coffee re-filled.

Went with a large group. The level of doneness of the poached eggs on all our benedicts varied wildly. Some were very runny. Some were poached hard. (But all were supposed to be the same...) Big downside: NO FREE REFILLS on non-coffee beverages. Really? They brought a fountain soda, but I wasn't informed about the free refill thing until I... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
