I went to this restaurant as it was recommended as having gluten free food. (Indian food is generally pretty safe.) They do offer Dosas, which are some of my favorite South Indian foods. My friends each had the thali, which I recommended as a way to taste a little bit of many different dishes. I asked if one could choose... More

Dosas are great at this place. It's an all vegetarian restaurant with many vegan options. The idli Manchurian is a must try.

Had been to this Udupi palace with a friend. Although not really authentic, the food was still good. The Bisibelbath missed the real karnataka touch by a margin, but was still a decent dish. The place was decent. What really put me down was the rude attitude of the workers(managers I guess). God he was terrible, super rude and snappy.... More

We have been visiting this restaurant for many years, and enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, we had dinner there last weekend and as usual i ordered the Vegetarian Thali. BIG MISTAKE The veggies served were three types. BEETROOT VEGETABLE, SWEET POTATO VEGETABLE, AND THEN CAULIFLOWER AND POTATO VEGETABLE. why on earth would you serve sweet potato which is already potato and... More

I love this place! No frills interior (reminds me of many restaurants in Asia) but excellent food! Udupi is located right on Gerrard Street, just below street level. The interior is simple but that's not what you focus on when you go there, obviously. It is clean and big enough for large groups. I love dosas! This place kind of... More

I come here with my cousin whenever I visit her in Toronto. We always order the puri with yogurt and fixings and then I pick whatever entree tickles my fancy at the moment- if I want a vegetarian dish or something with meat. Lots of rich flavours and a comfy dining atmosphere. Love the decorations. I love coming here.

I visit Udipi Palace whenever I yearn for South Indian food, which is almost every month. Today I visited the restaurant again and my experience was sub-standard. After ordering a couple of items for lunch I ordered dessert - Badam Halwa. A halwa is a relatively dense confection. What was offered to me was a thickened liquid that was extremely... More

Hi Corina first of all let me apologize for your experience. I agree we should have taken care of this in a different way. I have briefed the concerned staff as well as the Manager. The Manager should have definitely handled this in a better manner. I hope you give us a another chance and when you decide to do... More

We were in a hurry so I placed an order for 3 dosas (rava masala, Mysore masala and chili cheese) to go....and for while we were waiting I ordered the Machurian idlies (one of my favourites), papdi chaat and a falooda. The idlies were very good...fried and served with Manchurian sauce. The dosas were nicely packaged and were still warm... More

Staying in East End

Neighborhood Profile
East End
The East End is an eclectic amalgamation of areas that team up to make this district one of the most multi-faceted and alluring. Home to Toronto's LGBT community hub, Gay Village is alive and pumping day or night with friendly bars, nightclubs, and cafes – its thumb is on the pulse of excitement. For a more relaxed day, the East End has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes, and its stately streets, tree-lined and bursting at the seams with affluence, often sport farmers markets and street artists, epitomized by the effusive St. Lawrence Market. One of the most gorgeous of Toronto's neighborhoods, it also straddles Lake Ontario in an area called The Beach, where you'll find folks cycling and strolling along the sandy shorelines, getting some sun or enjoying shopping, dining, and pub options. For some fabulous food, the vivacious personalities running the restaurants in the East End's Greektown is only equaled by the fun and authenticity of the street stalls and restaurants at its expansive Indian Bazaar. 'Something for everyone' has never been so accurate.
