Solid Greek Fare

Thought we would do Greek for our night out. Have been to other places on the Danforth and decided to try Mezes. Now they are not the most warm/fuzzy staff, it's all business, but the food was good. I'm sorry, but I was here in 2002 and had excellent memories. I was so excited to return, but the food was disappointing. The grilled octopus was not fresh (yes--I can tell). The waiter had to bring us another tomato salad, and the first one had tomatoes that were not yet ripe. What can I say--it really didn't wow me.... More

We were told by our Greek friends that if we wanted authentic Greek food to come to this restaurants as they are highly recommended by the Greek community! Well to star the ambience is a little confusing! You get traditional Taverna style dinning mixed into a dark gothic setting which in our opinion took away from the coziness of this... More

This restaurant has been on the Danforth for many years and the food, the atmosphere & even the staff are always great. There are the traditional Greek dishes but also others that you won't see on every other menu like my favourite, the lamb or chicken kleftiko. It is lamb or chicken with spinach, cheese, peppers in a phyllo pastry.... More

Conned into paying double what we had planned to spend on New Year's Day. We had booked a table days in advance but they failed to tell us the menu for that day is set. We'd gone to the restaurant twice before and found the food and service a 3/4 stars which is fine. It wouldn't have been such a... More

Five of us ate at Mezes on the last Sunday of December and enjoyed an excellent lunch. I had a salad with grilled calamari and found it very tasty. The restaurant filled up very quickly that afternoon and appears to be very popular, so it's best to make a reservation (which we did). The service was quite efficient and friendly.

Without having been to Greece, but having visited many Greek restaurants in the US, Canada and the UK, I'd say this was the best souvlaki I've ever had! I came in with a friend - on TTC, very close to subway station - specifically for souvlaki and it was wonderful! I had the pork and sampled my friend's chicken, both... More

We were a group of 4 and decided to give this restaurant a try. We each ordered different plates and shared. It was the best Greek food we had. The service was great. It was busy, so we waited a bit for a table. It was worth it. I will definitely go back.

Mezes sat our boistrous and unannounced party of ten (but not our two latecomers) without a reservation despite it being an extremely busy Friday night. My friend and I ordered tapas (Mezes) while the rest of the part ordered entrees. Everyone was very pleased with the entrees, one of our party was overwhelmed by a huge portion of perfect lamb... Reading some of the negative comments on this place I was a bit hesitant, so was pleasantly surprised that the service we received was actually outstanding: courteous, friendly, not intrusive, and very good recommendations. Plus the food was very nice as well: we loved the lambsticks! Mezes are like tapas and nice to share. The atmosphere was fine but the... More

Staying in East End

Neighborhood Profile
East End
The East End is an eclectic amalgamation of areas that team up to make this district one of the most multi-faceted and alluring. Home to Toronto's LGBT community hub, Gay Village is alive and pumping day or night with friendly bars, nightclubs, and cafes – its thumb is on the pulse of excitement. For a more relaxed day, the East End has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes, and its stately streets, tree-lined and bursting at the seams with affluence, often sport farmers markets and street artists, epitomized by the effusive St. Lawrence Market. One of the most gorgeous of Toronto's neighborhoods, it also straddles Lake Ontario in an area called The Beach, where you'll find folks cycling and strolling along the sandy shorelines, getting some sun or enjoying shopping, dining, and pub options. For some fabulous food, the vivacious personalities running the restaurants in the East End's Greektown is only equaled by the fun and authenticity of the street stalls and restaurants at its expansive Indian Bazaar. 'Something for everyone' has never been so accurate.
