I am an American who occasionally visit my Canadian friends in the Little Italy district of Toronto. Ever since the 1980s, I have been dining at this wonderful diner on College Street. Primarily, I like to eat my breakfasts and brunches there. Ever since I can remember, the food at MARS has been good, inexpensive, and the service courteous and... More

We used to adore this place on College Street, with its authentic North American diner feel. The old staff were mostly eastern Europeans (Ukrainians?) and they gave the place some character. The rice pudding and muffins were faves of ours, but of course, the menu offered much more. Well, the magic has gone. I cannot sense any reason whatever for... More

We visited 3 restaurants in Toronto with my wife ordering pancakes in one week! The first was for a brunch-made ahead of time-$15. The second Sunday noon for lunch-good but..$12. Then to Mars for a quick supper between meetings-absolutely the best-$9-10. Imagine the cheapest and the best!

After helping our daughter with moving some stuff into her new apartment, we headed to Mars Food for a late breakfast. I think we missed the early morning crowd, and were easily seated in the diner right away. We sat in a pretty small booth for four people - it was too tight. But the waitress was quick with the... Old fashioned diner that has been around forever. We went on a Sunday for breakfast and the place was very busy but the service was fast and friendly. Our omelettes were tasty and healthy with little oil and lots of fresh cheese (brie) and vegetables. The chef was even singing as he cooked ! You can watch the cook prepare... More

Having first come to Mars with my father over 60 years ago - i remember the camaraderie that my father had with the owner back then. Under new management for certain, the food was not as I recalled. I had an eggs Benedict with chicken instead of bacon - it was just ok. the fond memories of the past could... More

I came here twice because it was the only place open. The food is really cheap and affordable but everything is extremely greasy. You get what you pay for.

As many of others dinners in toronto, Mars have been a very old fashioned and stylish dinner. The service was very good and the food average..... If you're hungry for a brunch it's a good option on college street.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
