So many restaurants try too hard, Le Papillon sets out to prepare a short list of well-known cafe dishes very well, and to present them in an informal, almost entirely outdoor setting. We had Onion soup, a house wine, a salad special, and a sandwich. Each was simple, and excellent, fairly priced with a knowledgeable wait staff.

My husband and I went for Summerlicious the other night for our anniversary. He had the hen and I had the lamb. My meal was excellent, the meat delicate and perfectly cooked, came off the bone very easily. His hen was very good as well, with delicious orange sauce. To make our experience really special, we got complimentary glasses of... More

We has reservations for a group of 20, and at the end of the evening I heard nothing but compliments on the food, drinks, service and decor from everyone in attendance. Everyone ordered from the menu, and I was surprised at how quickly the kitchen was able to get on top of the orders, and deliver such great dishes without... More

The food is very good. The tuna tartare is plenty for two. The crepes are an unusual presentation not rolled but square. The crepes Veronique and de la mer are tasty. For desert the creme brûlée is delicious and enough to share. I would recommend the Rodney Strong Chardonnay as a complement to the above. Out waitress Shauna was attentive... More

My wife & I had a TravelZoo voucher that entitled us to 1 Appetizer, 1 soup/salad, 2 entrees/mains. 2 desserts and 2 martinis. We had the French Martini (vodka, chamborad liqeur, lime & pineapple juice) and they were to die for. I had the escargot and my wife had the French onion soup, Both were delicious. For the main we... Visiting Toronto for the first time from Scotland. Came across the restaurant by chance and the menu appealed. How fortunate. The food was wonderful, the service excellent and the atmosphere friendly and attentive. It was so good we went for a second time the following evening. Don't think you can get too much of a good thing when it comes... More

THE BAD: I ordered the filet mignon and it resembled meat purchased from discount grocery, was cooked to medium inside which I ordered, but burnt outside, overpowered with peppercorns and gravy to hide the mess. I was very disappointed with the meat to the point I could not finish it. Roasted potatoes overcooked, roasted beets were a treat. Waiter brought... More

Great service, fantastic mussels - In Toronto on business and asked the bartender at the Royal York for a recommendation and he sent us to Le Papillon. We were not disappointed. The waiter was very accommodating - recommended the mussels which were excellent and we both had the lamb which was also quite good. A nice small restaurant - relaxing... More

Le Papillon on Front is located in the heart of Old Town Toronto. Inside of a beautiful Old Town Toronto building with exposed brick walls and high lofty ceilings sits the beautiful venue for Le Papillon on Front. It's exposed brick is complemented well by the aged hardwood floor and perfectly soft lighting. The venue suggests a lovely mix of romance, comfort, and of course, the classic French bistro atmosphere that has followed Le Papillon to all of its locations. In the warmer months Le Papillon on Front even creeps its way onto Front street, giving a beautiful view of the Flatiron building as well as the CN tower in the distance. With a closed in patio adorned with wonderfully arranged planters you experience a private feel, even while sitting on the heart of Front Street.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
