The atmosphere in this restaurant is very nice - very relaxed and nicely appointed. The food is local and innovative, however the portions are very small and tends to be pricey. The calamari and panko bree appetizers were very good, and the scallop entre was nice tasting, but very small portion (2 scallops). The lobster tail and pork belly was... More

We've been here several times and can officially confirmed now that it's always a great meal. The atmosphere is nice, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The food is fantastic - always interesting and fresh, in season ingredients. It's a favourite restaurant of ours in Toronto (or anywhere). Thank you again for a great evening!!

Had dinner at The Wine Bar last night with my wife and a friend before a concert. I think this is the former Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar. Jamie has definitely left the building! The server was polite, but his heart clearly wasn't in it. So he came across as being a little abrupt. It was early and the place was... More

My wife bought a Groupon voucher for this place before we left on vacation and it turned out to be excellent value. We arrived early as we had just arrived after 4 days on a train from Vancouver and we both had the Pork Belly and Lobster, along with a very nice bottle of local wine, and a stellar desert.... More

We had dinner here tonight. My wife had the Lobster and Pork Belly; I had the braised beef rib and we shared the cheesecake desert. The food was excellent as was the service. Although it was a Friday night it wasn't terribly crowded. The waiter was attentive and friendly without being obstrusive. The only drawback was the background music.

The Mess up: I bought a groupon which I thought was a very good value for this little place I hadn't heard about before and thought we'd give it a try. It stated on the Groupon to reserve by email, which I did but since I didn't get a confirmation or reply back, I thought I'd phone to verify. It... More

We gave this place a try with a Groupon, which cost us $89 and included a bottle of wine, two apps, two mains, and one dessert. I should start off by saying that the evening would have been a fabulous experience all around had the service even been slightly better. I'm not a fussy person at all, but there are... More

I took my wife for her birthday dinner here with a friend of our. Sooooooooooooooo glad we did. I have been there before a few times and it was always good, but this time they outdid themselves! My wife had the lobster ravioli. WOW soooooooooooo much lobster inside, on the side and in the sauce and it was DELICIOUS! I... More

This was our first visit to the Wine Bar and we really enjoyed it. Its a smaller restaurant that has excellent service and delicious food. We will definitely return.

Our first visit here, and the food was quite good. Service, however, collapsed at the end, as too many restaurants do. We had to ask for a bill when we were done, and then about 15 minutes later we had to ask again. Spoiled an otherwise good dinner.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
