Jacques is upstairs on Cumberland Street away from the hubbub and noisy construction of Yorkville. It's a lunch venue for meetings or women's lunches and many people make a reservation. Their specialty is omelettes, although I had a delicious nicoise salad with succulent poached salmon. Note that the noisy part of the restaurant is near the window.

My wife and I infrequently dine in Toronto so look for something special when we do. We like French food and so on the occasion of our 37th anniversary reserved a table at Jacques Bistro, our first visit. No doubt we'll be back. The excellent food matched the service. With only about 35 or so seats the staff has time... More

Jacques Bistro du Parc, a family-owned spot, has been serving French cuisine in a cozy and intimate setting since 1978. I had read about the 'perfect omelets' served here and so decided to stop for lunch. The perfect French omelet is actually one of the most difficult dishes to master - a firm exterior (without colour) rolled into a tight... More

The restaurant serves wonderfully prepared and fairly priced French food and offers a well priced wine list. The staff is friendly and helpful and the owner/hostess was welcoming and gracious- her husband is Jacques the chef. Save room for dessert as the Tarte tartin is the best we've had outside of France!

I took my Mom here for a Mothers Day supper, and they were a packed house. I had made a reservation, so no problem. The service was decent, reminiscent of what is expected by restaurant patrons in France. The atmosphere was professional and relaxed. The food...my Mom was happy with her scallops, my omelet was fine. Overall, Toronto has become... More

Went for lunch. Menu was limited but varied enough. Too many staff coming and asking the same question all with an unfriendly and distant air. I had a quiche and a salad, neither of which was impressive but the quantity was substantial. However the salad must have been sprayed with chemicals (likely with sulphites) to prolong freshness because it caused... More

We dined here on a special occasion with our family. The food was excellent, the waiters very friendly and attentive. Although small, the restaurant was cozy and reminded us of Paris.

Dissapointing. Pretty well what you would expect in a stereotypical cartoon. Snooty, disaffected people serving medicore small portions of food. Really not sure what else to say. I think I summed it up. The servers were attentive and helpful but they all had a distinct edge to them that was almost indignant. The one lady was actually quite rude. It... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
