Been thinking about a Margherita pizza for a few days now, and today passion took me to Il Fornello. Note: Don't let the indifference of the podium person turn you away. I am a paying customer, I have all my clothes on and I had a shower so I will stand here until one of us gives in. Or I'm... More

We had previous reservations and fully aware of their luncheon specials. However, upon being seated we were told that these specials would not be honoured as the restaurant was full?! We asked our waitress to check again as we knew it was still advertised. She came back again and told us they could offer something else in place and was... More

They say it got a top 10 restaurant in Toronto. That's hard to believe, as it is not a high end restaurant. It has better than average Italian comfort food, nothing fancy or out of the ordinary. It is what it is, and it's good at that. The decor is a bit nicer than your average trattoria, but not fancy.... More

For whatever reason, I have not been to this restaurant franchise in a least a decade. So I was glad that circumstance put me back in a window seat again. Server Matthew led the way with a “surprise me” gin (Tanqueray, as it happened) martini whose inner warmth matched the outside temperature. (The side of bread was fresh and chewy.)... More

We came across this by chance but we are glad we did. We have 10 in our group and they sat us without a reservation almost immediately. The waitress was awesome and the food was even better. The atmosphere was cozy and it was very clean. Would make sure to go there on the next trip.

Frequent this location quite often for high end quick lunches. Restaurant environment and sound levels are good for business dialogue that may require privacy. Service has always been good. Only reason I don't rate it a 5 star is that I have yet to see how they differentiator themselves from other similar spots in the financial district.

The food is good, especially the fish. The servers are friendly and helpful. This is a good Italian restaurant for a casual meal.

Small and good selection that's reasonably executed . We were in the pre theatre rush. The service was good. The food was good and reasonably priced. But it did not rise to above average in the limited selection we had, a soup a pasta and a pizza. The pasta (Norma) was well executed. The pizza could have done with a... More

Obviously a great location for anyone looking for some dinner before a show or concert but our first visit in many years makes me feel that it is really much more than that. Our food was very good and the service was excellent (this being noteworthy as the restaurant quickly became VERY busy.) Two of our party had the Pappardelle... More

Once again, arriving 45 minutes before the Toronto symphony orchestra performance the place was packed. In spite of that we were served within minutes from ordering and we had a good roast pepper soup, a salad and two excellent pizza (one prosciutto, the other Italian sausage and sweet onions) and we were out in 30 minutes. Not one of the... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
