I ate here with my family for dinner and had a nice view of the street. Service was pretty good and the atmosphere was welcoming. The food was excellent but a little pricy for the amount of food. Other that the portion size the meal was good.

We have eaten at several Il Fornello locations --Servers are always attentive, friendly, and accommodating. The location of this spot is perfect for theatre & symphony both and it is always very very busy -- therefore reservations are a must ! The food is so so --- the safest choice is pizza and a fresh salad. We did not do... More

Il Fornello serves reliable, unexceptional Italian-style food at reasonable prices and is a favourite for pre-theatre dining. In other words - avoid lunch on matinee days, and pick your times carefully to miss the pre-theatre crowd. Thin crust pizzas are reliable and good, particularly at lunchtime, and pastas are also straightforward. Wines by the glass are accessible. When packed, this... More

Excellent pizza (thin crust, hearth-baked) and other Italian items. Their real skill is in being able to prepare and serve great food quickly and consistently, even when it is very busy, as when taking on the pre-theatre crowd. We were going to the Royal Alex next door. We had reservations, arrived on-time, and were immediately seated. The server was very... More

Pre theatre dinner was delicious ... I had Capri Chicken which was chock full of chicken, roasted cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and padano grano cheese. Hubby had a yummy seafood linguine dish so top marks on food. However, watch where you get seated. Our SMALL table for two was located right in front of the 'dump the dirty dishes and utensils'... There are a number of restaurants in the theatre district. We chose this one because we all like Italian and it was very close to the Princess of Wales Theatre. There were 5 of us including 3 children aged 8-11. We had made reservations which was a wise decision as it was very busy and the waiting area in the... More

Il Fornello on King appears to base its business on the live theatre crowd in the Toronto Entertainment district on King Street. In the evenings, between the hours of 5 pm till 8 pm, the restaurant is packed. And as most live shows begin at around 8 pm, there is a mass exodus shortly before 8 pm. So, if you... More

My family & I all had delicious pasta dishes & one had pizza. The Waiter was quite friendly, funny but yet diligent. This location is right across from the Roy Thomson Hall, so easy for a quick dinner before or after a show.

Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
