Visited Hy's for the first time for dinner and ambient was really great and comfortable. I have ordered Angus ribeye steak, which was fine - I expected better. My spouse ordered roasted duck, which seemed really salty. While the service and ambient were great, our two dishes were not what we expected for the price charged. Perhaps a different dish... More

Hy's is a both a blast from the past and a modern day experience of luxury. The decor is impressive: soaring ceilings relieve a dark wood interior that gives a sense of both intimacy and grandeur. Large hanging lights (vaguely art deco?) emphasize the vertical reaches, while a giant fireplace with an elaborate stone mantelpiece offers a surprise: it opens... More

I just wanted to start out by saying that I have experienced fine dining all around the world and my experience Friday night with my amazing server Gabriel was second to none. The food was to die for and service was exemplary. I would recommend Hy's Steakhouse to my closest friends and family as a 5 star dining experience. I... More

Concierge of hotel recommended this restaurant to us for first night in Toronto. Restaurant is really attractive decoratively, and was busy.... Both good signs Service was very lax, we had to ask several times for a basket of bread to be brought, and waited a long time for our meals to be served The meals were generally good However the... A great experience all around. Service was excellent. Tableside Caesar was great and fun to watch. The cheese bread was over-rated. Seared tuna was expensive and tiny portion. Steak Diane was really good; cooked tableside perfectly, although too salty. Cheesecake was very good. Very civilized and a nice break from the noise of other restaurants. Wonderfully "old school"

We dined at Hy's many years ago when it was on Richmond St. Dinner in June was exceptional and service the same. Yes, it is expensive, but I would much rather spend 50 bucks for a great steak than 25 for an "OK" steak. Everything was top notch - next time to Toronto we will go to Hy's again.

This is a consistently good steakhouse with a similar menu throughout all their restaurants in Canada. You can't go wrong dining here. The steaks are always tender, moist, perfectly cooked to order and yes, expensive!! But as they say, you get what you pay for and that is true of Hy's. The Toronto location may be one of their more... More

As long as you're wallet isn't light, this is definitely a steakhouse you will never forget. The filet Mignon, as stated above, is to die for, cooked to perfection as desired. The decor is definitely eye appealing as well. It's not a place you frequent all the time, but when you're open to spend the big bucks and want to... More

My husband and I recently attended a farewell dinner at Hy's. As in the past when we have attended, the service was good. However the meal, not so good. Starting off, there were no complimentary nibblies on the table i.e. specialty breads nor little items to welcome the customers. The appetizers were also sparse and not that tasty. My husband... Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
