I've been here a couple of times and the place is always nearly empty. Strange though, as it has some of the most delicious sushi that I've tried in the city. Though offering only a small selection, the sushi items are expertly crafted and very good. There's even an old style rotating sushi belt, which, I hear, is fairly uncommon... More

Fune only rates a five if you are at the Sushi Bar, watching the wooden boats go by and picking and choosing from the delights on display. I had a perfectly amazing seared tuna item, some great sashimi and a tasty seaweed salad. I was seated at the staging end for the boats, so I saw all the action in... More

The sushi bar is a little non-standard, in a good way. For starters, the sushi plates move past on actual floating boats, which is a nice touch. As for the food itself, some rather surprising options are offered, such as a 'sushi pizza'. Great if you want to try something a little different.

We came here for lunch on a weekday. We were staying at the Ritz Carlton hotel and this was around a 5-minute walk away. The lunch deals were a steal! They came with a salad, miso soup and the main. The quality of food was really good, too. Sashimi was fresh, portions were good. Very impressed with the lunch sets... More

I was on a business trip to Toronto and found myself alone for dinner and thought a nice Japanese meal would be in order. I was really impressed with the food at Fune. Excellent service and very well prepared sashimi. It was fresh and made right in front of me. It's also quite good for the solo traveller as you... More

Started with the gyoza and yakitori. Then had the philly roll and shrimp tempura roll. Everything was delicious, service was great, menu was varied between sushi and full meals. Wish we sat at the sushi bar-wooden boats with sushi samplers float on a moat around the bar!

Sitting at the sushi bar is so much fun. Sushi on little boats float right to you! Because they are only two on each plate, you can try and experience sushi that you never dared to try before. Sushi pizza, beef and brûlé were just some of the creative ones. The fish is so fresh! Fun date place!

It's a nicely decorated restaurant, the highlight is sitting at the sushi bar. I enjoyed choosing and eating freshly made sushi, sashimi right off the passing boats. For main course I had the katsu Dom, pork perfectly and deliciously cooked. Sashimi is fresh but the rolls are delicious. The desserts are not a Japanese speciality, I don't recommend to save... At the end of the meal the plates were piled high and was pleasantly surprised when the bill came. Excellent sushi, calm atmosphere, fun and the service was spot on. What I would expect. Loved it and will be back.

Fune has a pleasant environment at semi basement level (windows high up on the walls) with an agreeable water feature on one side. There is plenty of space either to sit at a table or around the enormous central chef station which has a moat with boats offering different sushi and sashimi dishes. You can also order a la carte... Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
