My boyfriend and I enjoyed a beautiful dinner here. I was instantly taken in by the restaurant's charm and how it's tucked away on a small street that we'd never otherwise travel down. Yes, the wait for the oysters was a while - but it's a small restaurant, and I watched one of the servers shuck the 18 oysters and... More

The food here is great - I regularly bring clients here. The problem is that the service is really bad - every single time. The servers/bartenders have a holier than thou attitude, they don't check on you, they forget things..it's brutal. I once brought a client who made a difficult oyster order and the female bartender gave her a dirty... More

Perfect oysters during happy hours, friendly staff and nice place. During our visit of Toronto, the best oyster bar in downtown 👍

Had a working lunch here with a friend. It's a nice little bar with a good range of seafood dishes on the menu. We had a dozen mixed oysters, a great selection with some interesting accompaniments. We also had the scallop ceviche appetizer which was nice, but not amazing, and very small portion size. Fish tacos were tasty. Would go... More

Went for lunch on a Wednesday with a reservation. It was quite busy. Sat at the Oyster bar, service was excellent throughout. Appetizers were tuna tartare and octopus, mains were fish tacos and lobster roll; all were really good! Highly recommended.

Have eaten here a number of times. Great location right near Bay/King. Small space but well laid out and an intimate atmosphere but also fun and vibrant. Great food and great service. Always have the oysters, always a good selection of mains and specials. Wine is reasonable and the service is awesome.

What a gem this little place is. Tucked away but still in the middle of the financial district. Food was fresh, drinks on point and a focused but quality list of oysters. Can get a little rambunctious but fun.

Good oysters but they charge a lot for wine. Octopus was good. Compared to other restaurants their oyster were average which is not bad. The flavor and variety were decent.

Description
John & Sons Oyster House - Downtown is out of the way from the hustle and bustle of the financial core but at the same time right in the middle of it, hidden away. From ducking down our little street, you feel as though you are doing something deliciously wicked. When you walk in the door of our 40 seat joint, you feel as though you’ve stumbled upon the best speakeasy in town and you’re getting away with flouting all the rules while everyone else behaves. You may think you’ll only have a few oysters and a quick drink while you’re there, but everything around you conspires to make you want to stay longer. Our fare varies according to the time of year, coastal fishing quotas and weather conditions. We can always shuck to order from a selection of 5-10 different Oysters daily, drawn from both our own beds in P.E.I. and the best growers in Canada, the USA and further abroad.

Staying in Downtown West

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
