There was a time when College Street was a mecca for Portuguese food, but no longer. Nova Era is a holdout from that time, and not to its detriment. Visiting Nova Era should not be a teary-eyed or sentimental affair, rather, motivated by the desire to take in their filling and very tasty traditional breads and pastries, all at very... More

I had a pecan square and my husband had the chocolate croissant with coffee. Service was good and the food was delicious and fresh.

There are many not bad breads! Especially, I love mini tart in here. (But cake is not good for me.) Moreover, they offer so reasonable price!

This is a great place for a sandwich. I had a "Bifana" on a fresh Portuguese bun ($5.49) with a coffee ($1.46) and it was delicious. As you can see, prices are very reasonable and the bread is fresh. Staff are very friendly and helpful, if you are not Portuguese and have questions like me. Decor is pretty basic but... More

I eat lunch here at least three times a week, the hand made sandwiches are cheap and delicious. The fresh baked buns and bread are amazing as well as the hand made pastries

This Portuguese cafe and bakery is my go to for a variety of deliciousness. You really can't resist the custard tarts, coconut pastries, array of cookies, beautifully designed small pastries that are perfect to grace your dessert table, and delicious cakes you can pick up or order for different occasions. The large mould of creme bruelle is always a hit... More

My family and I ordered coffee, sandwiches and pastries. I have a 1.5 yr old, so I grabbed my croissant off the serving platter to keep her entertained while the food came. We first got coffee and pastries and like 20 min later we got the sandwiches. Meanwhile, my daughter still hadn't gotten her milk. As we waited for sandwiches,... More

Every time I visit Toronto, I have to stop in. Pasteis de nata, pão con chorizo, great coffee, pão doçe... The sandwiches are portuguese style large, and the pasteis de nata rival the very best from Belem (although different from the original, they're just as satisfying). The variety of fresh, portuguese style breads and delicious quick bite foods satisfy us... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
