Queen Street East is a mixture of upscale spots and franchises. Mars has its origins on College and Bathurst - the old time go-to place for breakfast. This new place on Queen is a good re-creation of and improvement on the original - which is saying a lot - great food and great value. The famous home fries and the... More

I actually ate on Queen street by the beaches. Had the all day breakfast. While the waitress was a little rough around the edges the service was good. The plate was 3 eggs, plenty of home fries and toast. I thought it was really or why would I have finished everything. I think this is as good as breakfast can... More

Nice find on Yonge Street at Ellington Ave. Meals are great value. Always has breakfast specials. You really need to try the Banana Bread French Toast! Wow it is awesome.

We visited this diner for lunch during a business meeting and found it to be wonderfully suited to all tastes at the table. They offer a wide range of selection in all areas of food. I had a bagel and lox which had lots of cream cheese (usually they don't come with enough!) and salmon. It was wonderful and filling!!

When I first moved here I was told I had to try Mars. It was good but in those days not a lot of options. This place can still hold it's own with a pretty good breakfast. If breakfast is your thing this is a good choice. At least you'll be able to tell Torontonians that you ate here.

Mars Diner has two locations in Toronto. The original restaurant on College Street in 1951, and this location on Queen Street opened in 1994. The decor reminds me of a 1950s diner, with quaint red barstools for counter service, lots of chrome, and red pleather booths. The 'hours' sign says they close at 4:00 p.m. but it turns out Mars... Been open since the mid 1950s! If that doesn't show how good it is, I don't know what does. Had the most amazing Eggs Benjamin. Hollandaise sauce was amazing. Staff were so kind. Food was made fresh in front of you and the decor kept with the them and feeling. If I lived in Toronto this would be my go... More

Staying in East End

Neighborhood Profile
East End
The East End is an eclectic amalgamation of areas that team up to make this district one of the most multi-faceted and alluring. Home to Toronto's LGBT community hub, Gay Village is alive and pumping day or night with friendly bars, nightclubs, and cafes – its thumb is on the pulse of excitement. For a more relaxed day, the East End has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes, and its stately streets, tree-lined and bursting at the seams with affluence, often sport farmers markets and street artists, epitomized by the effusive St. Lawrence Market. One of the most gorgeous of Toronto's neighborhoods, it also straddles Lake Ontario in an area called The Beach, where you'll find folks cycling and strolling along the sandy shorelines, getting some sun or enjoying shopping, dining, and pub options. For some fabulous food, the vivacious personalities running the restaurants in the East End's Greektown is only equaled by the fun and authenticity of the street stalls and restaurants at its expansive Indian Bazaar. 'Something for everyone' has never been so accurate.
