Authentic Mexican food, served quick and fresh. Real food, cooked from scratch, learned over the years from my Mom at our taco stand in Mexico City. It doesn’t get any better!

Muchas gracias to Martin and his crew at 'La Mesita'. Who would have thought that you'd find diverse, authentic Mexican in little, downtown Peterborough?!? (Not me!)
We crossed the patio and entered the small restaurant that felt like a tiny gift shop you could find on a tiny 'calle' in the DF!!
Wide range of vegetarian tacitos with incredible salsas on offer, PLUS true Mexican sodas: "real Coke" and Jarritos made us happy.
When we sat on the patio to eat, Martin came out and happily-yet-respectfully (i..e non-intrusively) greeted us and asked if everything was fine. That's when we felt like we were back in Monterrey or the DF!
Kudos to you Martin! Get there now Peterborough!!

My husband and I love this little place. The food is excellent and well priced. Everything is made from scratch with authentic Mexican flavours.
Having travelled the non touristy parts of Mexico, this little restaurant captures the true flavours of Mexico.
It is great for lunch or dinner, there are a few tables and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. you can eat in or take out or have it delivered.
We love the tacos and soup... great daily specials too!

We didn't know what we should have so we asked the owner Martin to surprise us and that he did! It seemed that everything we tasted was an instant favourite until we tasted the next thing was even better! Best pico EVER! I don't part with my dining dollar easily and I am known to be super-picky. The cost was totally worth it when the whole experience is fun and the food was amazing. It is refreshing to have great service and you know the owner takes pride and adds to the Peterborough flavour and community because of his great small business.

Purchased two orders of enchiladas for takeout. When we got home we were unable to eat them. There was a very strong vinegar type taste that made them inedible. In addition, the menu read that they are served drizzled with sour cream and cilantro. No they were not! I also think that 13.95 for three small enchiladas without a side of anything is expensive.

My wife and I popped in the other day, and the food was awesome. Better than the other local Mexican places, in my opinion. We got one of the special so the price was good, too. Very tasty, fresh ingredients, u inquest flavours. We’ve been to Mexico many times and found it quite similar. If you don’t understand the traditional “Day of the Dead” decor, watch Disney’s Cocoa and it will fill your in.

We had read great reviews of this restaurant and wanted to try it while in town. We were greeted very warmly by the owners who helped us with our order efficiently. We ordered the taco trio, enchilada with bean salad, chicken quesadilla and (because people on the patio were raving about it) the nachos. We also tried the homemade salsas. The food was fresh and very enjoyable. We definitely recommend coming here and trying a few dishes.

The food is bursting with flavour and the service was friendly and attentive. We wanted a quick lunch, so we ordered the tacos and the enchiladas. The freshness of the ingredients, the piquant flavour of the salsas (tomatillo and pico de gallo), the soft, tasty tortillas, the firm black beans, and the beautifully chopped vegetables all made us wish we could eat here everyday. We are from out of town, visiting the Peterborough Folk Festival this weekend. We just learned that La Mesita will be a food vendor there. : )

Martin makes everything taste like it's made with love and ingredients just came from a grocer. The dishes are simple, authentic and brimming with flavour. And they are served with a smile that welcomes you back.
La Mesita is one of my favourite spots and I love introducing new people to its wonders.

First off, this was an unexpected surprise. When we got there, Dennis was alone serving and cooking for patrons. He checked in with us several times advising he would be with us in a few. We almost left but decided to stay and glad we did. We were seated and Dennis was extremely apologetic. We ordered and waited for our food. Because Dennis was so busy, he made an extra dish which he gave to us at NO charge. We gladly accepted and it was delicious. Then we met Martin. He was great. Told us the stories of his Mom's recipes and how she knew when food was done by the smell. He was so sweet, relatable, and very endearing. Our dishes came and they were delicious. The 3 Tacos and Enchiladas just were so flavourful and well seasoned. Then squeezed in dessert. Churros was magical deep fried to perfection topped off with whipped cream. I swear we both collapsed on the table with no words. Needless to say, it was a sloooooow walk back to the Hotel. Dennis and Martin are the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Great food. Great atmosphere. I'm sorry we didn't take pictures because we scarfed down the food so fast. We will definitely be back!! Thanks guys!!

First time visit and won’t be the last! Had the enchiladas and chorizo con queso deal and it didn’t disappoint! Rice and refried beans would have made it perfect or some nacho chips on the side! Bought some pico de gallo for at home! The young girl that made the food was sweet and helpful. Pretty bare bones and borderline fast food but delicious

Sweet little restaurant with only maybe 5 tables and fantastic authentic Mexican food. My one son ordered the enchiladas and the rest of us did the 20 mixed soft tacos and they were amazing. The salsas are all different, I loved the black bean one. We will be back soon!!!

I recently visited with a large group and we didn’t call ahead. The owner was so kind and worked hard to make our experience a great one! The food was spectacular and the service was incredible. He was concerned that we had to wait for our food (which would have been completely understandable given the size of our group), but it wasn’t a long wait at all. I will definitely go back again! Delicious food!

Wow. I would never have expected to find the quality of Mexican food in Peterborough, Ontario.
So amazingly delicious. The salsa is so fresh and delicious. I had the quesadilla. A friend had the torta. I want to go back on my next visit.
The salsa is amazing. You have to try it. You will want more.

I get Taco’s quite often from Martin’s restaurant-always great! I travel often and no matter where I am in the world I try to find the best Taco joints(I know, odd eh!). Martins stands up against them all. Now, if I could only convince him to get Trompo for some traditional al pastor!!! 😉

It is not a big place. Great for takeout but has a few tables. The service was excellent. The price was excellent too. The food was over the top good. Tasted like it was freshly homemade. The salsa was the best we’ve ever had. It’s a must try place for Mexican food.
