A relatively long time had gone by since our last visit to Play. The decor upstairs changed slightly... however, what really matters, in by that I mean the quality of the food and the service, luckily remain unchanged. Exquisite small plates options, with nice wine pairing suggestions, and the kind of top notch care you would expect at a Steve... More

Play was a pleasant surprise find in Ottawa. My wife and I are on a road trip from Niagara on the Lake to Montreal and Play was recommended by the concierge at our hotel in Ottawa. We enjoy the small plate option at restaurants and were not disappointed at Play. Contrary to some of the average or negative reviews we... More

On my last trip to Ottawa I wandered into the Play Food & Wine in the Byward Market section of town. After spending the day at the National Gallery and laden with too many art books and postcards. I was tired and not in the mood to walk further. This charming wine and small plate food bar was the perfect... More

We went last weekend for dinner. A few food allergies limit the kind of meal we can enjoy. I did not want something that we can cook at home and the format for Play, where one picks two different items on the menu, each paired with a wine seems like a good option. We were not disappointed. Between the two... More

Excellent food, and our delightful server was friendly and helpful, but the hostess greeted us in a curt manner, and told us in a snippy way that there was no other table available when asked if we could sit elsewhere (our table was close to the washrooms). Apart from her unfriendly welcome, our lunch at Play was excellent.

My wife and I went to Play Food & Wine when she was pregnant. We're sure the experience would have been one of our top 10's if she could have enjoyed the wine. The foodie in you will love how elaborate and complex the dishes are. The open kitchen lets you feel the energy being put into your food. Don't... More

We took a group of seven out for a meal and casual business conversation. The ambiance and service where excellent and suited the function very well. The food selection was not your typical fare in terms of portion size or selection. I would compare it to tapas which was not to everyone's liking. I had the curry soup and the... More

Stopped as part of a "food" tour. Had Halomi (sp?) cheese grilled, with salsa verde and almonds...very nice and lovely presentation. Service was good and informative. Would go back for full meal in future.

We were able to get a table at this popular eating establishment on a busy Friday night. We had to only wait for about 15 minutes for the table (as promised) Waitress was very helpful with explaining their menu, good timing on her approaching us for another round of tapas to try. Dinner consisted of:
Charcuterie plate, pork rillette /... More
