Had a delicious meal and excellent service Sunday night in NOTL. The Sunday Prime Rib ($42) was excellent quality, large portion cooked as requested and served with a nice vegetable medley, mashed potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. The fish special was pan fried pickerel ($34). It was served on a bed of noodles which my husband would not have ordered if he knew. However, it was so delicious he was glad he didn’t know! 😂
He really enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding ($12). We would love to try the burger which looks great but, unfortunately, they are closed Monday and Tuesday and we are always here Sunday - Wednesday.

Ok, so this place is "off the beaten path" but certainly well worth it. Eating lunch, outside, on a beautiful, cloudless, bright and sunny day, at the edge of the surrounding farmland was a great experience. Service was prompt, friendly, helpful and the entire restaurant, restrooms included, was exceptionally clean.
The menu had some, what I think are, unusual items. Today's special was a Prime Rib Sandwich. Two of us ordered this and the other item ordered was the Garrison Burger.
Nobody was disappointed. The Prime Rib sandwich was tender and most certainly delicious and the Garrison Burger was no exception. Even the fries (listed as "chips") were outstanding.
After lunch we ventured "downtown" to the historic district and the contrast couldn't be more evident! From a leisurely, excellent meal, with just a handful of people to a packed, crowded, mass of people everywhere makes one realize just how good The Garrison House really is.
If I could come up with one complaint, it would be one that is common to many dining establishments. WHY, when I never ask for it, do restaurants insist on placing a piece of fruit in every drink you order, from water to rum and coke? I had ginger ale, and of course, much to my dismay, it was served with a lime. If I wanted fruit, I'd ask for it.
But alas, this did not ruin this meal one bit...The Garrison House is well worth the trip!

We have driven past The Garrison House many times but never went in. This year we were in NOTL for the Christmas plays, we decided to go to one of the places we usually go to, but the menu was not really appealing, so we went to The Garrison.
My wife had the steak, mushroom and blue cheese pie with peas and turnip mash. There were large pieces of steak which is always nice, enough blue cheese to taste but not to over power the rest of the flavours. I had the braised lamb korma the mix of flavours was just right and the lamb just fell off the bone. The service was quick without being rushed. The portions were very good so no room for dessert.
We enjoyed it so much we decided to go back two days later for lunch. There is a variety of choices on the menu, as well as fish night on a Friday and prime rib on a Sunday. There is a selection of local beers on tap. If I had anything negative to say, it would be that we had a table for two by a large curtain which I assume is to stop the cold when the door opened, it did that job but if people coming in pushed against the curtain it would come close to our table, but having said that, I would recommend the Garrison house for lunch or dinner.

Staff was very nice however I don’t think we would return based on the rest of our experience. Patio dining chairs are very hard and we waited a very long time (50min) for our 1/2 chicken dinners. Very tiny portion of fresh vegetables and the chicken tasted good but again ,it was a very small portion. Even our 90 year old mother wasn’t full from this dinner.
It seemed like a lot of $ (32 per plate) for very little food.
And believe the reviews that tell you the music is loud.. hard to have a conversation with others at your table.

We come yearly and always enjoy the food if not the ambience since it is ALWAYS too noisy.
This year we decided to try items from the
"regular" menu rather than the Sunday roast and special offerings. My husband really enjoyed the Cottage Pie but felt the portion wasn't big enough and he has a relatively small appetite. I opted for a well done burger and fries. The fries were lukewarm so l requested replacement which was cheerfully provided. I have NEVER paid $24 for a burger.
I would have said it was "just okay" at $15 but was extremely underwhelmed at $24. My husband enjoyed the peach pie with peach buttermilk ice cream and peach sorbet. I had a tiny taste of the ice cream and, to me, the sourness of the buttermilk outflavoured any peach taste.
The sorbet was bitter. We'll return next year but it will be back to the Sunday roast and, hopefully, something from the specials.

The place seamed clean, not busy, waitress rhymes off the specials- never mentioned the pasta dish was spicy and when told it was too hot for elderly mother - waitress never suggested alternative , just seemed to nonchalantly hand us an empty plate to share the burger with my daughter. The Cesar salad had waaaaaay too much salt on the dressing and not sure why had olives on it.
Overall less of a great experience

Went there for supper. Place was packed. Service was ok, however my wife ordered a steak medium well, and it came back VERY red. She decided not to send it back, however she had to basically saw the steak like a piece of wood.........not good. When you are going to charge prices like that, make sure you service food that matches those premium prices.

Sunday is prime rib night - ordered it medium, not red. It came to the table red, rare. They offered to cook it more but the meat was tough and I declined. The veggies and potatoes were good, the meat was a cheap cut and not seasoned and tough. Extremely disappointed for $45 meal. Three other items on the dinner menu were sold out at 6:30 pm. We went on the positive reviews from the web but were very disappointed. They took $22.50 off the bill for the prime rib.

My wife and I went to Garrison House for the 1st time tonight. We were very eager to try the Shepard's Pie after seeing it featured on the Food Network show "You gotta eat here". The staff were very pleasant and we were seated right away. We were informed the Shepard's Pie was NOT on the menu ! We ordered Calamari, 2 Burgers and a creme brulee. The calamari was very poorly cooked, not crispy. I ordered the Burger medium, it was med well to well done and had very little flavor. The creme brulee was decent but I've had better at other restaurants.
This was an evening out with my wife, we literally had Burgers, an app to share, a desert share and only water to drink - and for that the bill was $90. I'm sad to say I'm not sure we will be back, the staff were great but the food quality was very below average

Arrived at 6 Sunday evening and were fortunate to get a table; super busy and noisy. The Sunday roast was delicious and the prime rib was cooked to a perfect very well done. My husband had the braised lamb shepherds pie; piping hot and delicious. Fortunate to get the last dessert special; apple fritters with a custard sauce - EXCELLENT. Didn’t even mind having to pay $6 for bread and butter since it was super fresh. Excellent service. Will definitely return.

Superb food! We decided to eat here to escape the madness of Niagra following a hectic day at the falls. No reservations and the restaurant looked full with locals - but we were sat at a table and benches outside and served quickly. The halibut special was beautifully cooked and delicious with fingerling potatoes, corn chowder and mushrooms. The fried chicken was succulent and very tasty. A lovely ambiance and the locals were friendly. Highly recommended!

This Nova Scotia boy had the best fish & chips he's had in years! An ample portion and truly great fries makes me want to return soon. Everyone at the table shared calimari and brussel sprouts - sounds odd but it was all first rate. The service matched the food, too. A must when in NOTL.

My husband and I had dinner at this place and it was outstanding! We both ordered the burger and fries along with the chicken wings and the entire meal was very tasty!
I also ordered gravy with my fries and it was also very good, my husband ordered the curry ketchup with his fries and they charged a 1.50 extra, I really think they shouldn’t but whatever the meal was very very good!
The whole meal was about $100 with tip and also included a beer and Caesar. Very decent prices considering we were in NOTL.
We will definitely return.

On the edge of the new urbanism development called The Village, this much-loved pub style restaurant serves consistently excellent food. Chef and owner David Watt has just published a cookbook celebrating the offerings of chefs around the town, with some of his own dishes featured. Eat and drink on the patio in the summer or cocoon with the locals in winter.

Some delicious food, we had the beet and citrious salad with the fresh fish special. Delicious flavours paired with great wine.
Only reason why not 5 stars is the kitchen got backed up and we waited about an hour for our entrees.
The wine helped pass the time.
Would definitely return
