WONDERFUL suprise in Barrie!

So I rarely get up to Barrie, but was on a Father-Daughter date to see a show at the Mady Centre. We arrived plenty ahead of time in order to scope out a great place for a relaxed meal before our showtime. As soon as I drove by The Local Gastropub, I knew we'd be in business. I am a... read more

I went here with my wife and 2 friends for a late lunch and we had a great time. It was quiet but it didn't' matter. Our server Jenna was really friendly and knew all our names. The food was delicious, 3 of us had the fish and chips, traded the chips for a baked caesar salad which was awesome.... More

Can't say enough good things about this gem. The staff, the food, the beer, the atmosphere. Amazing. We had the pulled beef tacos, what flavour! I would also highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding. I order this dessert everywhere I go and the lime caramel sauce is delicious!!! Wow. We had beers that were brewed right down the street, and... More

Stopped in for late lunch/early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. The staff that served us (Jenna) was very friendly, welcoming and seemed genuinely interested in talking with us which is a nice change from other restaurants. For food my wife and I shared the haggis lollipops which were quite tasty, and I had the fish and chips. The fries were... More

Hi Darcy Thanks for taking the time to post your review about The Local. We work away at trying to offer something a little different than the rest while keeping it local. The decor is a work in progress, and as you may have noticed there are pictures and different pieces on the walls. These all stem from regulars that... More

We came for dinner on a cold, Barrie, January evening and found this place to be as warm and inviting as it was when we were here in the heat of mid July. The server greeted us like we were old friends and made sure we were comfortable at our table by the windows looking out onto the entertaining streets... More

This was our third or fourth visit and really our opinion hasn't changed since the first. The food was good but overpriced. This is probably a great place for the craft beer drinker, but otherwise it's nothing special. The thing that really keeps us from coming back is the atmosphere. Basically there isn't one. I don't know whether it's the... More

Dear wolfheadbc As i am sure you have noticed we responded to all comments and suggestions on Trip Advisor whether they are positive or negative. We feel that one of the key components to our little pub is the staff learning a little about our guests along with there names. This creates an at home feel when you walk through... More

No clue how this place rates so high in Barrie. I've gone here to eat no less than 3 times and each time the food has been nothing to rave about. It's a corner pub with pub grub no different than the other 15 pubs along Dunlop St. If you want a good dinner go to The North, Urban Dish,... More

Dear usaincdn It's very unfortunate that your experience on 3 separate occasions did not meet your expectations and this is something we take very seriously. We always encourage guests to give us feedback when we table check during their time with us, as this allows us to rectify any issues Immediately for our guests which in turn makes them leave... My girlfriend and I found ourselves in downtown Barrie looking for food. We saw this place and decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise! The food was excellent. We ordered onion rings as a starter, then the Macaroni and cheese, and the Pulled Pork Tacos. All were very, very good!
