I ate at its sister restaurant, 2 Doors Down, which is located - you guessed it - two doors down, and because I had such a great time there, I expected a lot of this place. They have locally-sourced food, which is really nice. The food was good, and the staff really tried to be attentive and accommodating, but there's... More

By far the best restaurant we visited whilst on a business trip to Halifax. We received a very warm welcome as soon as we arrived. Our server was very knowledgeable about everything on the menu and gave some great recommendations. The highlight of the evening was discovering the local Lucketts wine. Again our server was able to give us the... More

When you want locally grown food, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious, Chives delivers. I had the risotto with lobster and it was the best meal I had on our vacation to Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Plus, we loved the art and sassy green painted walls, the delightful server who made sure we had an enjoyable meal, and discovering a truly... More

I am never disappointed at Chives. The menu is small but has something for everyone. They are very considerate of special dietary requirements. I am gluten free and they have the best GF biscuits brought to the table warm with a pot of butter and molasses. Yum! On my most recent visit I had the halibut. It was cooked to... More

A bit difficult to find as its not a street level eatery but well worth the effort finding. Service & food is first rate, well prepared with as many local ingredients as possible. We had chicken & grits and flank steak both very good. Apparently the restaurant 2 below is also theirs so may try that tomorrow.

We were here with friends the other night and enjoyed ourselves very much. The food was very good and they even provided a gluten-free biscuit for one of our party. They also gave us some good wine recommendations. This was not our first time here and it won't be our last.

Chicken and grits for me....pork loin with cumin and smoked paprika for my husband...both good, but not great...the grits were too runny for this southern girl...pork was delicious...everything felt just a little tired....maybe not on their game that evening...

Chives is a friendly, professional, casual restaurant that seems to have the knack of making everyone feel at home. Big emphasis on fresh and if our experience is indicative, most everything on the menu has got to be good. the one sad part for us is that my wife took ill and couldn't join us. They did send us off... More

An excellent place for a wholesome, interesting meal. We began with a salad special including strawberries and snow peas. The halibut to follow was the best I've ever tasted. One of our party had the peanut ice cream and was ecstatic. The service was impeccable and very friendly.

Couple ahead of us did not have reservation, we did … guess who got the best table? We appreciate a maitre'd who takes the time to ask first. Our server was very attentive, pleasant and asked frequently if everything was good. Seasonal menu is somewhat limited, but food was fresh and well presented and prepared. Crab cake starter looked appealing and... More
