I had heard much about Basho and finally had occasion to go there for a birthday celebration. The service throughout the meal was very good. My sampling of the appetizers was promising...both the Tuna Tartare and the Cod Cheeks were delicious. However, my main was disappointing. I thought it impossible to go astray with the Rack of Lamb but I... More

Sure you think it is a sushi or Japanese restaurant but it is a delicious fusion. My wife and son had the sushi and I had the halibut. They thought the sushi was the best they ever had. My Halibut was great. All dishes had top notch presentation. Good martinis Desert was goat cheese, cheese cake and was interstellar.

I ordered the greens salad, the sushi platter and the goats milk cheesecake. The sushi was fresh and the salad was great, but the cheesecake was a definite highlight - original and delicious. My only complaint would be that there was a long wait for the sushi, but the servers were all friendly and professional.

I had always been told that the sushi at Basho was the best in St. John's. I've heard this comment repeated over the last couple years and finally had a chance last night to see what the hype was about. Me and my gf went to Basho solely for the sushi, so my comments will be based on sushi alone.... More

I'm a local but well traveled and I am completely baffled with Basho's placement! It is by far the best restaurant in Newfoundland. Exceptional food, exceptional service, exceptional culinary experience.

The service was terrible and the food was mediocre, which made for a disspointing eating out experience. Re the service: The waitress mumbled, we absolutely could not understand her at times, which was very frustrating. She was not helpful with clarifying our questions regarding the specials and did not attempt to clarify the menu. It took a long time to... More

There is nothing special about this place. It serves typical AYCE sushi that can be had in any other province for $25 a head. The tuna tartare that we ordered as an appetizer to share was bland and practically devoid of tuna and came with 4 small croustilles (for our party of 6). There was wasabi in all of the... More

Service was quick and friendly. Sushi was solid. Their scallops three ways were excellent as well. Very creative drinks as well - specially they had a cherry mojito which was supremely creative!

From the warm sun shining in through the widow- the amazing Blackberry Mojito - excellent service- we had a wonderful evening. The steak was to die for- tender and done to perfection- and the sauce was indescribably delicious. The chocolate cake drowning in whipped cream- melted in your mouth. Highly recommend as a culinary evening to remember

One of my favourite restaurants in St. John's. Awesome Sushi and an amazing Steak Frites. Nice intimate atmosphere. Service is great and definitely one of the most consistent and worthwhile restaurants in St. John's.
