This bar is exactly what you would expect. Deliberately a bit tatty around the edges with great beer and spirits. We had the opportunity to be " Screeched in" a local ceremony to become an honorary Newfoundlander. It was a quiet Monday night when we...More

Coming from B.C. and drove across Canada. Of course the 4 of us had to get "Screeched". Bobby was the barman and what a great personality he had! Even with a few loud and inebriated patrons, he kept his cool and entertained us perfectly by...More

I came here on a Tuesday night, when I arrived Trapper was outside. He explained to us that he had been a patron of the bar since 1968, I believe; and now he owns it. His first question, ‘where are ya from’. Everyone say ToronTo,...More

If you have not been officially Screeched in then this is the place for you. The bartender goes through this very elaborate ceremony and then you get your very own certificate. Everyone must do it once.

Had a fun time at this bar. Started off getting screeched in. They did not make us wait too much. Plus did not need a booking. And it was hilarious as it should be. Kissed a cod, glad it was frozen . Less smelly that...More

Expectations were not high but we were pleasantly surprised! Owner, Trapper John welcomed us and performed a hilarious and informative ceremony! I would highly recommend the experience! As the review stayed, this is a dive bar but I can’t imagine a better ceremony performed anywhere!

I had read that this was one of the places to be screeched in on the Island. Travelling with two kids under 10 doesn't allow for one to enjoy the experience as fully as one should. Presumably at night and after a few cocktails. But,...More

The person who received us and other visitors was obviously too drunk to care. Pronouncing that we were all too sober to be screeched. After seating us and bringing handfuls of beers, it was plain to us that this would get ugly. Thankfully we left....More

We went through the whole procedure. Owner was hilarious. He's obviously done this a "few" times. It was about a 20 minute procedure-part history, part cultural, part Newfie humour. We enjoyed every minute. By the way, I found Newfie Screech a very smooth, delicious dark...More

Be screetched is a tradition in NL, and Trappers's John is probably the best for this. The guy is awsome and very funny.
