We had a really nice supper here. My husband enjoyed the crab cakes, I a salad (special order as to not include duck). I had a vegetarian terrine and he had the cod stew. Food was very good and we couldn't finish. My only complaint was that there were no vegan options. I'm not a vegan, so it wasn't a... More

Terrible experience. The service was extremely slow. My food was not hot. I had fish chowder which did not have any taste nor did it it have any lobster or crab in it (which the menus claimed it did). It did have a couple of pieces of cod that were very chewy.. So disappointed because the reviews made it out... More

Despite its relatively low TA rating, we decided to eat at Bacalao last night due to a personal recommendation. We do not understand why it's so "low on the list." We loved the fact that the restaurant is segmented into separate small rooms. Our server was attentive and pleasant. Two of our party had the Salt Cod Stew (Bacalao is... More

Had dinner at this restaurant tonight. The greeting was friendly and the atmosphere of the place was warm and comforting. Decided on the salt cod dinner (bacalao) which was great, essence of Newfoundland. My friends had the lamb and halibut and again very good. Desserts were delightful as well and a great culinary experience!

What a great twist on traditional Nfld meals. The wine list is broad for a great selection but I would stay away from the cocktails. Lots of great appies but the mains are pretty traditional except for the salt cod stew. Service is fast and friendly for the 'come from away' gang.

Bacalao is where I had my first date with my husband 5 years ago, but I assure you that is not the only reason this place is close to my heart. Bacalao's food is truly amazing and an experience in itself. They create unique dishes that play on Newfoundland dishes but with a twist. My first experience with Bacalao was... More

Really enjoyable meal. Very relaxing, no need to rush. We had the Housemade Charcuterie Plate, Bacalao’s Seafood Chowder, Pan Seared Fogo Island Cod-pot Cod, and the strip loin. All were flavorful, and cooked perfectly, The service was friendly. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

4 or 5 small and dark rooms. very posh atmosphere. it is a little expensive but it is good (salted cod was too salted though). The desert was amazing: partridgeberry meringue !!!

Careful attention paid to the food at this restaurant. Had the appetizer of duck/cheese tasters with locally made chutney that was delicious. Liked that they source locally as much as possible. Trout was moist, with the yummy potato pasta and grilled vegetables. Seafood medley was generous and also delicious. Set up is a bit cramped, into little rooms, but obviously... More

Fabulous dinner here. The chef even sent out a little fish taco to taste to start because they had been serving them the day before at the Regatta. We enjoyed the Jigs Dinner Cabage Rolls which were amazing. I could have eaten about 20. We asked if we could order a plate of cod tongues and they accommodated us!! Each... More
