It has been a few years since I last reviewed The Frenchway...so much improved in so many ways. Others have recognized it as well...most mornings and lunch periods, it is a busy place. I enjoy the variety of sweet treats and the coffee is usually refilled and it is good.

Although the food has been quite good, the portions are very small and served without much garnish or interest. And the service is superficial.

Cute little bakery cafe, good parking (great in winter), and a pretty tasty breakfast with the highlights being the homemade bread for toast and great coffee. Lots of other good options to try including crepes, oatmeal and several eggs benedict options which looked delicious. Will definitely be back!

My husband and I stopped in for lunch this afternoon. Atmosphere is lacking for a bakery cafe. Ordered curry lentil soup and a tuna sandwich and an omelette on a crepe. We got water which we asked for and waited patiently for over 15 minutes wondering where our food order went to. How long does it take to make a... More

Had a late, light lunch of Nicoise salad , bread and coffee today. Very reasonable, fresh veg. and fab bread. This is a bakery/ cafe, so they sell a variety of baking, including whole wheat croissants! Service was ok. I learned that there are many types of "Nicoise" Salade, and this one does not have potato, green beans, or anchovy.... More

This is a good place for a quick, tasty and healthy meal. We both had the roasted vegatable sandwich. I had the lentil soup, my friend had the salad. I found the soup a little watery, but the sandwich was delicious. The vegetables were beautifully cooked. Our server was very pleasant. The atmosphere is functional. There is a small parking... We have The Frenchway as one our regular Saturday breakfast stops and invariably both of us have the breakfast sandwich with spinach. It is always good - it comes with well made diced potatoes as a side. Service for us has always been pleasant. The takeaway breads and pastries (the cinnamon buns are excellent) we have sampled over the years... More

I went to the Frenchway for lunch last Saturday with my wife and her sister. I had a Croque Monsieur which was a bit chewy and smothered in Bechamel sauce. The roast potatoes were wonderful, though. My wife had a spinach salad which she said was average and her sister had turkey curry soup which was mainly broth with only... More

I've given Frenchway a few chances and every time I go I leave feeling disappointed. I've been for breakfast, lunch and tea and I won't be going back. Breakfast- I had french toast (which was incredibly dry), my friend had the cafe breakfast (only place in Winnipeg that refuses to upgrade toast to a fruit cup, over cooked potatoes, tasteless... I used to enjoy the ambience and warmth of the tiny little establishment on Academy. The Lilac location had neither of these characteristics. I dropped in for an afternoon dessert to a largely deserted room . The waitress said that they were out of this and this and maybe I should come to the counter to see what was available.... More
