Planned brunch elsewhere and when that didn't pan out we did a last minute search and ended up in this cozy, open-kitchen spot. We were welcomed by the cook who was happy to answer my questions (yes, everything is made scratch) and promptly brought waters and menus. We ordered mimosas (2/$10 today) and were pleasantly surprised at the "kick" to... More

I'm a local living close by and highly recommend Jan's on the beach. Very diversified menu, consistent good food and a big bonus, a room with a great view. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

We visited this fairly simple restaurant on the esplanade for lunch one Saturday. They make a point of advertising most (all?)of their food is gluten free, including the batter for their fish and chips. I tried it and found it pretty good. I don't have any issues with gluten myself and usually avoid gluten free food as the taste and... More

We waited and we waited and we waited for our brunch. The cook/ owner was extremely rude. She was also very understaffed. The staff that was there were superb, but the owner/cook told us to go next door if we did not like the service. I am disappointed because this place was once recommended for its food

Went here with a group of friends. Yam fries are good. Hubby had the clam chowder and Caeser Salad. Salad was pretty good, but the chowder was so-so. Serving size was a really large bowl. Told me I make better chowder. I had the Pecan, Shrimp Goat Cheese salad which was very tasty and perfect serving size.

We were with friends and wanted to have a quick drink and enjoy the view of the ocean. It was around 4pm, lots of empty tables. The server was turning away customers, and we were one of them as she informed us the tables were reserved and they could not serve us a quick drink. We went near by instead... More

We took our family here and the meal was superlative. My brother had the halibut fish and chips and my wife the cod. I sampled both and they were nice big chunks of fish, beautifully presented and delicious. I had the eggs Benedict special and every detail of it was wonderful. The chef, Jan whipped up a quick hollandaise sauce... More

Jan's on the Beach could not have a better location in White Rock, directly across from the old train station. We ate on the small patio and enjoyed the view. Staff were lovely and helpful. I had read previous Trip Advisor comments and decided to try the fish and chips. Sorry, but they were only average. Typical frozen fries, nice... More

HI there, Sorry to hear our fish and chips didn't impress. Just one correction though, we buy fresh potatoes from Ladner, from "George the potato guy" as he's known. We then cut and blanch the fries in house. No frozen potato chips from us. Usually we hear very positive comments on our fries. We'll take a look and see if... More

Great location across the street from White Rock beach. We arrived at 6:00 before the rush. My dinner mates said their calamari and pulled pork sandwich were very good. My prawn salad was a disappointment - 4 bland prawns, lots of greens and diced apples, whole pecans (almonds?) and a bit of goat cheese. Nice dressing. A bit boring for... More

Not many opportunities out there to eat fish and chips if you are gluten free. Jan's has it. They do it well. Had 3 friends with me, they don't have to be gluten free, but they enjoyed it as well. Nice patio outside. Friendly service All around good stuff We will go back, as there are many items on the... More
