Do you like genuine Chinese food? A Chinese friend told us that it is available from this restaurant but you have to know what to order and talk to the owner. In spite of the name, the Hong Kong West is mostly a Szechuan restaurant owned by a husband (the Chef) from Szechuan Province and the wife from central China.... More

If you want an authentic Chinese restaurant with all the good, and non nNorth American service at time then this is the place. If you have not lived in China this might not be the place for you but if you want a bit of fairly authentic China and mostly real Chinese food then come here. Despite the name it... More

I was there in June 2016, a filthy restaurant with horrible service, a scene right out of 'Blade Runner'. My husband thought I was exaggerating, so we stopped in together last Saturday night. Though there were 2 empty tables, the server was so rude, telling us the wait would be at least 1.5 hours. Will never back. Went to our... More

Been going for years. The Sichuan chicken is unreal! Service is much better. Many Chinese people go there. The outside looks "dodgy" and not the most glamorous inside — put all that aside and enjoy this amazing food!

Had a great meal here last night. Blackened chicken dish and prawns with snowpeas. Fresh and tasty without being over spiced or sauced. Only our second time there. Other tables were having sizzling pan lamb and spicy fish hot pot. Those will be on our order list next time.

Misleading reviews, overpriced, terrible ambiance, sanitary concerns. Anyone giving this place a good review must not make it to lower Mainland. We are huge Sichuan cuisine fans, and this was a huge let-down. Worst meal we've had in Victoria.

Wandered around Victoria looking for real food. Found Hong Kong West on alternative site as a place for "real" Sichuan "provincial" eats. An unimposing facade and dining area disguised the treats we had - spring rolls, spicy chicken, and eggplant dishes. Had them all "medium spicy," - delicious stuff. Beware full spice! Medium was plenty for us used to S... More

My all time favorites are four season beans and candied chicken (medium heat). They are on Chinese menu but not on English menu (I believe), so if you are ordering food from English menu, you may be missing the best dishes in the city! Don't judge this place by the appearance of the restaurant. When you look inside, you notice... More

It's been there for years but none of our neighbours visited because of how it looks from the outside. We ventured in and discovered food was homestyle and very good without the usual oil and salt that often comes with Chinese style cooking. It's home style cooking for sure. The wait is long even for take-out orders. I don't think... More

Best Chinese in Victoria. Szechwan chicken extra spicy blew my mind twice over. I also love the service but the atmosphere is minimalistic. If you have been to Asia you will feel right at home!
