Great food & service

Had another wonderful meal at Curry Club on Blanshard in Victoria BC on Friday night. This restaurant never disappoints, The husband and wife owners greet each table and make you feel welcome. The waiters are all helpful and friendly. Beautiful Sukhmani waited on our table this time and was friendly, courteous and had just the right amount of attentiveness to make us feel cared for without intruding on our conversation time. Thank you for another great eating out experience!

Blast to the past!

We were huge fans of Saaz restaurant so when we found out Raj, the owner was opening a new restaurant we were so excited to try it and weren't disappointed! They had hand sanitizer at the door and the servers wore masks so we felt comfortable eating in. The restaurant is beautiful and bright and the chairs are super comfy! The menu had plenty of options; we had such a hard time deciding so we ordered 2 appies and 5 dishes between the three of us. The portions were massive and will feed us for days!! Everything was perfectly flavored, especially the okra masala which we definitely recommend! Our servers were so wonderful helping us learn the names of some of the dishes and keeping our masala chai topped up. We love love love this restaurant and will be back many times to come!

We have lamb masala and lamb shish kebab, mango lassi and kufi ice cream. They are very authentic. The mango lassi has spices in it and is not too sweet like most places. The meat were tender and juicy, full of flavour with spices. The steam rice was of good quality, piping hot and fluffy. The ambient was nice, very clean and looked very new. I do hope they will continue to open for business despite the pandemic. We didn’t have reservation but was early so there was plenty of days. Will visit again when we are next in Victoria.

We dined in as a group of 6 - some of staff wore masks but some wore none and breached physical distancing advice. There were no draft beers and we ordered bottle beers 3 times before they had the beers in stock which were on the menu. It felt that the staff had never served in a restaurant before. Popadoms were grilled semi burnt and had no accompaniments. Main dishes were brought out erratically with naan bread arriving when I had 3 mouth fills of curry left. The rice was served too little too late and water jug refills had to be requested. Chicken tikka Marsala dish was a great dish butter chicken not so good.

Bad service spoiled our experience

Starters arrived before popadoms and chutney. The husbands meal was put on the table while he was eating his starter. My meal arrived 10 minutes later along with the naan and rice we share. I ordered a very mild curry with the emphasis on the mild. Foolishly I tipped it over my rice and with the first mouthful I realised it was very hot. I advised the waitress who asked if I wanted to change it for something else. I declined this as by now my hubby had finished his chicken tikka and we didn’t want to wait another 10 minutes for me to eat alone. The bits of chicken i picked out of the curry were tasty and I’m sure if they had served the meal in a sensible order so we could have enjoyed the evening I would have overlooked the hot curry. As it was the waitress never changed her facial expression and wasn’t in the least bit bothered that we weren’t happy with the service. On a different note, the cleaning checklist in the toilet was dated Feb 2022 as the last entry. Someone had written on it that the toilets weren’t clean and should be cleaned three times a day. It is now June and there is no new sheet !

disgusting food.

We ordered a "special" of pakoras and samosas for delivery. Unfortunately our food was not edible. It included chicken, fish, prawns and lamb? (mutton), The chicken and lamb was very dry and difficult to eat. The fish and prawns were mushy and frozen far too long. After trying to eat a bit of each... we ended up throwing most of it out.

A great experience

We visited here for dinner with our daughter and grandson recently. All of us will be back for many visits. This is a new restaurant that is beautifully designed (kudos to the renovator and design team), with a blue and white theme that is crisp and modern. Seating is comfortable, the site is very clean and well cared for, and it is right downtown with lots of parking nearby. The food is excellent! We had a range of ages at dinner and that reflects what we ordered. The adults loved the Gol Gappa Shots, which I have never seen before in Victoria. Our grandson loved the chicken pakoras, the butter chicken, and the dessert which was an Indian Ice Cream treat - Matka Kulfi. The adults were also impressed with all of these. We also ordered a dal and a family sized garlic Naan. It is huge, and so delicious. My only regret is that there were not more of us in attendance so that we could have sampled more dishes. Next visit (without grandson) will try the fish curry

Elegant Indian food

We just had lunch inside the recently renovated Curry Club, just wanted to get the word out, it was fantastic. Raj and his wife have an elegant dining room with elegant food. We started with the Jack fruit Pakora, not knowing what their recommendation would taste like. Great accompaniments and great start to a Mel. The four us us were happily surprised having only had their takeout lamb curry and butter chicken the previous day. The combo platter with perfectly coked fish, uncommon I find in most Indian restaurants, usually grossly overcooked, not here. The land was tender, no gamey taste and fell apart. We ordered mild heat and it was just that, perfect for kids if they have a tender palate. The spinach chapati was dual layered and a real treat. I could have eaten that and the sauces all day! Raj and his wife were extremely welcoming and friendly. Definitely will become popular quickly.

Amazing flavours and tasteful experience

We are so excited to share our pleasant experience at this new addition of the Indian cuisine life to Victoria that we wanted to share our amazing and tasteful experience at this restaurant. The atmosphere, ambiance and restaurant decor was warm and welcoming. The restaurant is clean and presentable. All precautions are in place for safe social distancing. We started off with a samosa chaat and I’ve never had such a better and tasty chaat in Victoria. The tandoori chicken is absolutely fantastic, presentable and so favourable. We also decided to try their recommended lamb roganjosh and my partner was impressed with the indian spice flavours that we will definitely be having this again. To end this perfect evening off we both had rasmalai. One of my most favourite desserts. Definitely will be coming back again and supporting this awesome new restaurant.

Best Indian Food In Victoria

Absolutely the best Indian Food in Victoria. In fact it is the best Indian food I have had outside of India. The quality of their food is exceptional whether dining in or via delivery. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The menu will satisfy the taste buds of both meat eater and vegans. I love their Dahl and Coconut Curries. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic flavours

We ordered three different dishes and were hugely impressed with the flavours, authenticity and portion sizes. The Tandoor dish we had tasted like it had actually been baked in a proper Tandoor oven (sadly, not always the case in other restaurants). The sauces were fantastic so we polished them off and although we both had trepidation (sometimes the food is great, but cheap cooking oil later "shows up" as a delayed effect), no problems here. The only negative I could point out is that the cook was obviously in a hurry so some of the vegetables were chopped "large" and needed cutting, instead of being bite-sized. Friendly staff, though we did the takeout. So can't comment about table service, but were happy that the containers were recyclable. While waiting for the food, we noticed that the dining room looked pretty uninspiring, like a lot of the classic Chinese food restaurants, but looked quite clean.

Food is excellent. My Chicken Masala was one of the best I've had in years. Service not so. We were there for 2hrs which was OK but after finishing our meal were never approached for coffee or dessert, the bill or even another pricey drink. Toilets were pretty bad. Modern but dirty.

The evening we were there it was not busy and that can sometimes be a good thing, and sometimes not so good. In our case we had a lovely time. The menu was quite large with many vegetarian options. There is so much to choose from for both carnivores and vegetarians on the menu. Everything we ordered came to the table piping hot and we did not have a long wait for our food. The dishes we chose were very tasty, well seasoned, well prepared, and the portions were a good size. My husband ordered a glass of wine and the pour was generous. Service was good, we will gladly return to sample more from the menu.

There are so many fine places to eat in Victoria one never knows where to start. We always look for a restaurant that has a Vegan option. This restaurant has lots. The portions are excellent and the food was great and very tasty. This will become our go-to place in the future.
