Stop in for lunch at the Red Burrito on Commercial at 1st Ave in Vancouver. The location is easy to find, right on the corner. However parking can be a bit tricky on Commercial depending on the time of day. It's metered parking on Commercial which is common in Vancouver. The food smelled so good! The staff were very pleasant... More

We had a hankering for Mexican food and it was around noon time so we searched for the Red Burrito which we were told as near 1st Avenue. The menu is fairly sparce hovering around variations of the burrito. The home-made chips and guacamole are fantastic.

Having wanted to eat at the Red Burrito for so long, I finally had the opportunity yesterday. They are located on the corner of First and Commercial, a terrific spot for visibility, but not so much for actually getting there. I ended up driving down the alley and then back up Commercial and found pay parking on the street. Fast... More

Great location, sat at the bar facing window onto Commercial Dr. Ordered the 3 tacos, roast chicken, spicy chicken & vegetarian (rice & black bean). Chicken was dry in both, & tortillas were store bought. It's cafeteria style, so you can order various toppings, although you have to pay extra for guacamole. I'd probably try something different if I come... More

Service & food was great, had a tamale with various toppings, just before closing. Hit the spot after shopping. Went back 2 nights later and same dish, only added beans and rice. Tamale was mainly corn flower not much chicken. Still tasted good. Servers were different and always friendly.

This joint has been at the same spot for at least 7-8 years, just a couple of tables and a counter along the wall with stools, the place is run by Mexicans, it's tiny and on the busiest corner of East First and Commercial Dr. and it looks like a fast-food place inside, one orders from the counter directly. The... More

Cafeteria style with a Mexican flavour, limited choices but the food was good, they make to order grilling the burritos right out front. Some subsitutions available small selection of beers. Small place, a few tables and a counter at the window. Mostly catering to the take-out scene.

I just left that place today. WORST poor excuse for Mexican food I've EVER had. I ordered the Chicken Tamale and it was dry and the chicken was very little and tasteless even with the sauce and watery (yes watery) sour cream I asked. I ate what I could stand of the Tamale because I was hungry so I thought... More

Came here and got a burrito. It was pretty good. Generous with the guacamole! The service was really good and the staff were very friendly.

After a few hours on the water Red Burrito was on the route home...and the Tortilla Soup was calling! The soup was good, the soft tacos were worth a try (the spicy pork left a little to be desired). The spicy chicken with mild sauce and sour cream was tasty. The restaurant space isn't very large--which makes it great for... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighborhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
