We arrived at 11:45 on a Tuesday for lunch (they open at 11:00) and the placed was full with people waiting ahead of us. Since the restaurant came highly recommended, we decided to wait the 30 minutes necessary to be seated. Ajisai did not disappoint! Everything was not only delicious but very reasonable. We ordered so much food, we even... More

This small sushi bar usually has a long line of people waiting for a table, unless you aim to get there early (around 6) for dinner. We sat at the counter and saw the chef and his assistants working tirelessly to prepare the dishes for sit in diners as well as the very brisk take-away trade. All of the dishes... More

I was lucky to find a seat before the lunch crowd arrived. The toro sushi was excellent but the toro shashimi was disappointing. Service was slow and spotty. Too much salt in the genuine crab roll. The chopped scallop rolls were inconsistent in quality and amounts. The best was the bluefin tuna. It ran out after one piece even though... More

I have known Ajisai for a long time. But since we moved to North Vancouver, we have not been had a chance to visit this restaurant for a while. Sushi itself is 4 stars but because of the long waiting time, I gave 3 stars. I have ordered Special Assorted Sushi, Seared Salmon Press Sushi, and Squid and sour plum... More

My son and I went on a Thursday night and it was VERY busy. However we were told 10-15 minutes was the approximate wait time so we went for a coffee at La Cuisson next door. We came back and they were setting our table. Brilliant. The service was very efficient and friendly (finally, Japanese staff in a Japanese restaurant!)... More

Great quality at a decent price. It's a bit more expensive than the average in Vancouver but the quality is always amazing. I come here often, never been disappointed.

A great place to enjoy fresh and authentic sushi and sashimi. Very busy especially for dinner and no reservations are taken, you will have to wait probably 30 minutes but it is worth the wait. Small location best to eat and go as it gets crowded, and noisy.

For lunch, I had a great taste of the following: Hosomaki Combo (~$13) with half roll of Tekka, Salmon, Kappa, Shinko, Umeshisho, Yamaimoume, Miso Soup and Green Salad Unagi Battera ($16) Saba Battera ($12) Starting with the Hosomaki Combo, this is like a tasting platter of sorts. Tekka is tuna, kappa is cucumber, shinko is pickled radish, umeshisho is a... More

A very solid sushi joint. I'm not sure why I haven't dined here more often than I have, given that it checks off all the important things I look for in sushi place. 1. Authenticity - The menu isn't filled with crazy rolls or random menu items (i.e. korean barbeque, noodles, etc.) and it centres around sushi. 2. Fresh, quality... More

Staying in Kerrisdale

Neighborhood Profile
Kerrisdale is Vancouver's laid-back shopping district. In contrast to Robson Street, there is more on offer, at more competitive pricing and a slower pace. Called "The Village" colloquially, over 200 storefronts and one-off shops crowd its streets with products and services. It is set in a comparatively sleepy part of town, with tasteful homes and tree-lined walks. Many of its buildings are listed on the Heritage registry, making it a wonderful place to amble and take in the visual history. Moreover, Kerrisdale's healthy consumer culture is especially apt for those interested in culinary, specialty, or children's shops, boasting more of these than anywhere else, meaning that it's a busy spot for families and hobbyists on the weekends.
