In a city where good asian food is pretty easy to find, I can't understand why so many people decide to line up outside Kingyo. It's my second visit and has yet to impress me with it's food. Sushi was average. Kara Age (fried chicken) was tasty but very greasy which I guess is normal but I've had better and... More

I can't believe the amazing quality of food for the price compared to NYC! They have a unique twist on their food compared to more traditional Japanese restaurants. Loved the tomato kimchi tofu salad, crabmeat hot stone bibimbap, kobe meatball with mushroom special, and black cod. I come here every time I'm in Vancouver and it never disappoints. It's very... Went with a friend, shared 7 dishes.....7 absolutely stunning dishes...each one complex and scrumptious, visually beautiful...delivered with enthusiasm and speed. The tuna carpaccio......I can't impart fully how divine this dish is......fabulous! And we had draft Japanese beer...which I reluctantly ordered, as often draft is a bit flat and tired. This draft came in an ice chilled glass and was a... More

Holy cow! This place is incredible. Top notch service, small and intimate seating and the freshest fish and authentic ingredients. Food here is far beyond the expectations of taste for regular "sushi" places. If you're love sake, the list of offerings will leave you beyond thrilled, overwhelmed, and thoroughly lost in a wonderful predicament of deciding on one. Why just... More

After a family bike ride in Stanley park, we were searching for late lunch. A trip advisor search showed this place was in the area. A line at 2pm and lots of locals around is a good sign, so we waited and made it in. The food was super fresh and put together creatively. Casual atmosphere and not overly friendly,... More

The minute we walked in we were enveloped in happy people and inviting atmosphere! It was crowed but we were led to a long table separated down the middle by tall bamboo. All around us people were taking photos of their food! These weren't touristy folks....the food presentation is just so nice. We had the tan-tan noodle dish and it... More

We went for dinner and was one of the most amazing dinners ever. Food delicate and delicious, full of flavor and beautifully arranged. The waitress were so smily and kind and the atmosphere superb! Would come back any time! We could not sit at the table but the bar was amazing. Reservations recommended!

I nearly convinced myself to not go to Kingyo for lunch prior to heading off to the airport; I am so glad my love of sashimi won! Despite the word that this place is busy for lunch - and it was - I felt immediately looked after in this place. I waited for less than five minutes and was then... More

At first we were a little skeptical of the menu but we gave it a go and were so happy we did. The tataki was delicious, as was the pork belly, and especially the crab rolls! I also can't rave enough about their homemade gingerale- it was absolutely delicious.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
