We were surprised to find a meat-lover's quiche on their lunch menu and had to try it. The portion was large and freshly made. There are vegetarian choices also available on their menu. While were there, many folks came in to pick up take-out orders so it must be popular with locals picking up meals to bring back to their... More

This small cafe was near our hotel and we had breakfast here three times in a week. The portions were huge (you might not need lunch!), the food excellent and the presentation wonderful (why can I never make my food look so good!) We didn't eat here for anything other than breakfast but the other food options looked very appealing.

Don't pass this place up. They are in a small location in gastown, not directly off of water street, but there is a cut through to get to the restaurant from water street. Everything is made fresh on site, pastas, sauces, and pastries. I had the tortellini and it was delicious. They had huge pastries in their cabinet that looked... More

It was raining and to early for lunch. We stopped for a cup of coffee which was strong. Not sure if I would stop here to eat. The place has a cozy quaint feel to it. They have wifi access.

we were surprised for a bakery and small place that the bread was a bit stale. the food was good however the ravioli (asparagus and ricotta) was smothered in the tomato sauce that had a lot of great veggies and mushrooms but was a bit overwhelming. the caesar salad was just ok. the soup on the other hand was good.... Excellent, well cooked food, but not a good choice if you don't like pasta. We had the Veal parmiagana with mushrooms and a salad. Great choice of sweets. Not a big establishment, but very friendly.

We discovered Brioche on the Gastown food tour with Heather. Our group took up the entire back room. The delicious aroma of fresh baked bread instantly welcomed me. We enjoyed trying the ravioli so much that we felt like we had to return. And we did - for dinner the next day. We were in the cozy front dining room... More

From the street, looking at the entrance of Brioche, you could mistake it for a café on any French city, except that this is Gastown. The café tables for two, covered in pressed, crisp white linen draw you closer and then the incredible aroma pulls you in! Brioche is a French fantasy in Vancouver. As you walk in to see... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighborhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
