We had gone to the theatre and decided to go for something to eat. A friend who knows the area gave the idea of Marcello's brick oven Pizzeria. The place was almost empty since it was nearly closing time. The waiters were so happy and welcoming, we sat in the patio where there were still people having fun and enjoying... More

The staff and service were great. I had a gnocchi dish which was excellent. Since i was dining alone I was seated at the bar but staff were still attentive. Place was busy but has a nice atmosphere and an outdoor patio. Would definitely recommend.

We loved the pizza here- super thin crust with lots of flavors. We ordered the 'mixed' one where you get to try 4 different kinds of pizza on one pie- love when restaurants do that so you can try more than one dish! The pizza oven itself is a work of art- we sat next to it at the bar... More

Took over 1 hour for the food to come. Must have had bad luck tonight. The manager came & just gave excuse after excuse. The table next to us kept on getting up and grabbing the jug of water to fill up their water. And then another table got up to get their own napkins. Food was really good. Disappointing... More

5 of us visited on a Friday. The place was hopping and we had a bit of a wait to get in. It is pretty noisy inside. Maybe better on the patio but beggars can't be choosers and the whole street was so busy that some restaurants were 1/2 to 1 hour waits. It worked out well for us though.... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here. We found the restaurant to be quite noisy as it was packed when we arrived. They quickly accommodated us with a table outside. Our server, Drew, was outstanding. Food was excellent. We were happy we had dinner here.

Marcello's feels like it belongs here on Commercial drive...at least the old commercial drive. The strip is undergoing hipster creep now so any classic old style Italian restaurant is still a relief. Bottom line, thin crust pizza here is very good as you would expect from the brick oven in the main room. Pastas and salads are not the usual... More

Marcello's food is pretty solid. We were a group of eight people and everyone liked what they had. Pizza is obviously the main selling point and there are quite a few choices available. It wasn't the greatest meal of my life, but I liked what I ate. Service was fine - nothing special but fairly friendly. He did try to... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighborhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
