I always search the place I want to go for a meal, Otokomae seems fine on all the platforms, so I tried. The food was not as exciting and the bartender can not make a glass of old fashion...I wouldn't say it's horrible but I may should have lowered my expectation...

This place is extremely popular and I recommend that you make reservations. We were a group of 9 without reservations and the only reason we were seated was because we arrived before the dinner crowd showed up and we were told that we would only have our table for 2 hours. Izakaya restaurants offer small plates that are meant to... More

We were a big group and some of us were coming by Skytrain, so we chose Guu Otokomae. It is very convenient being close to Seabus as well. We had a table right beside a large open window looking over the Water St., and it was very nice. All of the food that we ordered came in a timely manner... More

My partner and I visit a lot of different restaurants as we love to experience new food, new atmospheres. We have been to the Guu on Robson and we loved it. However this one we were very disappointed. The service was terrible and the food was okay but not exciting. The main thing was the service. It took over 15... More

Enjoyable and unique dinner at Guu. Great atmosphere and nice as many of the main dishes could be shared among your group. Try the Salmon with 7 friends (for something unique) and the Mushroom Cheese Bibimbap in a hot stone bowl, very delicious. Service was a bit on the slow side but no problem if you're not in a rush... This place has a great atmosphere, with waiters shouting to each other in Japanese, and the busy restaurant buzzing with conversation. The food was excellent, particularly the chicken kara age. It is also very reasonably priced for a pretty classy restaurant. Can't wait to go again.

Poor quality food. Squid was overcooked and not fresh, the miso cod was low quality and not seasoned sufficiently and the tuna was overcooked with avocado that was overripe. Service was ok.

The food was top quality and tasted really good. I would say you must try the fried tofu, it's like no other. I enjoyed every item we ordered. It's nice to get a bunch of small plates which have unique flavor. Great place for a date night.

I was expecting the loud exciting vibe of the Robson location but it was more of an after work drink location. Good was good but nothing special. Second chicken karage was over cooked. Hey brought us something we didn't order and guilted us into keeping it. Nothing was overly spiced and nothing stood out as exceptional. Disappointing.

Always packed in the evenings so be sure to call-in advance or go in early! This Guu is my favourite out of all of the ones I've been to so far in Vancouver. I love their fresh sheets as well as the staples on their main menu. I was slightly surprised at the fact that they've updated the menu here... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighborhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
