Day 2 of the trip to see Sis, we had booked tickets to a play at the Standing Room Only Theatre which is at the back of Havana Restaurant. It seemed sensible to grab a bite before the performance. OMG! Sooo good. The place was very busy but we were served very quickly by lovely wait staff. I decided on... More

As in the name, this is a warm busy place and the exotic aspect makes it a funny paradox in a wintery Vancouver. Enjoyable for a group of fellows, too much smelly and noisy for other kind of gathering or date. I had a couple of drinks and i can say rhum and cocktails taste like heaven...

Havana has truly been a favourite for a few years now! Snuck in for a quick Happy Hour lite dinner and the tacos, shrimp and parmigiana fries were awesome! A frequent brunch spot is what We have enjoyed the most about Havana. Get there early as the place can fill up quickly. Great service and a relaxing atmosphere all help... More

Went for dinner last night with a few friends and had the Fried Chicken dinner. It really lacked flavor and the vegetables were totally undercooked. The drinks were on point and the atmosphere was actually quite pleasant given how busy the place was. Unfortunately the food disappointed and I likely would not go back years it was just applies and... More

This restaurant is located in my neighbourhood and I want to love it... but each time I come, I'm left feeling like my meal could have been better... the service is good, decor is fun.. food is....well it's OK. Truffle fries are tasty, tacos are good, Eggs Benny for brunch... Now... the Sangria here... well it's delicious and strong! I... More

Two aussies visiting family for Christmas in Vancouver we headed out for an aussies favourite meal of brunch. The service was extremely friendly from the young guy serving us, the meals were all delicious. Havana's decor is funky and cool, though the lack of soft furnishings does make it a little bit noisey when busy - but not unbearable. The... More

Came here recently for breakfast. It was very good - first time we've ever tried chicken & waffles, and the first time I had eggs benedict on a waffle (great combo)! The savoury gravy the chicken&waffles came with was awesome - highly recommended. The mochas were good here - but the coffee was not. Sorry, not sure what type they... More

We booked a group of 18 which morphed into a LOT more and the gracious staff made it work. Usually with large groups I expect slow service, but they were amazing and far exceeded our expectations. I also appreciated the attentive service of pouring our wine (didn't expect that from here), Now the food. EVERYONE raved about how delicious the... More

I had the jambalaya that was full of andouille and chorizo sausage, shrimp, and chicken. It was good and spicy but still had depth of flavour and bold taste. Partner had the chicken and waffles - which came artfully harpooned on a steak knife with a side of sauce and roast veggies. Would I order it again? No. but it... More

..To celebrate a 'special date', my wife took me to Havana's for a treat because Havana's serves a paella, one of my favorite dishes and hard to find town. It's a Saturday nite and busy when we arrived, but got a table outside, under the heat lamps, which took the chill out of the air. We both had their Roja... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighborhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
