Great food, loved the ambiance, you feel like your in Italy..its amazing. Beautiful paintings. Only problem was the servers were very flat. And not trained well. Made many fumbles for example spilling water, flinging my fork off the napkin etc.. Could be better in that sense and they should go with all male waiters only in a place that nice.

We had only a few minutes to select a restaurant and get a reservation on a Saturday night. I quickly found Al Porto recommended and checked out their menu. Everything our group of 4 ordered surpassed expectations, even the gluten free pasta that often disappoints at other places. The wine we ordered was a good value and excellent tasting. Service... We were in a group of 28 Tauck Tour guests dining at long tables. We thought the ambience to be very good and the attentiveness and service of staff to be very appropriate. The Italian food was much better than served in most of Italy where seafood is limited and of poor quality and food bland. Everyone was impressed with... More

Couldn't find my way in to start with but a kind local guided me to the basement. Don't turn too soon out of the elevator as you will as I did, find yourself in the kitchen....Immaculate tables, proper linen. Steak was cooked precisely as I asked - rare these days.

The food was very delicious. They had local hard ciders that were very good. The price was fantastic and it's located in the middle of downtown Vancouver. Very friendly staff.

I enjoyed this meal which started with tomato and cheese salad. This was followed by a Coherent red Salmon. We finished the meal with a ice piece of tiramisu. This was very good which difficult as it was a group meal.

I had feared that a restaurant right in the middle of Gastown would be a tourist trap and expensive. Not so. Beautifully set out, with a knowledgeable server and with excellent service. Food delicious. Would definitely recommend and hope to visit again.

I went for lunch. I ordered the special. It was a pizza, a small salad and potato leek soup. Pizza was undercooked. Salad and soup were fine. Wine was good. Service was good and attentive.

This was our Italian night during our five night stay in Vancouver and Al Porto was an excellent choice. I loved the look of the room when we walked in; great color scheme and nice lamps everywhere. I had a scallop and shrimp dish that was very good and my wife had the osso buco. Excellent service. I highly recommend... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighborhood Profile
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
