We had a great family dinner at the Afghan Horseman Restaurant before going to the Bard on the Beach play. We ordered three different platters for the six of us, and got a wonderful variety of meat and vegetarian dishes that fed everyone with plenty of leftovers to take home. In addition to tasty Middle Eastern food we had a... More

If I had a big group for a dinner I'd certainly consider this restaurant. While we were only a small party there were a couple large tables. Sound was pretty good. We weren't screaming across the table at each other like so often happens under those circumstances. Anyway, our meal was good. We started with a potato boulani which was... More

I ordered lamb shank with rice, spinach and eggplant. The vegetables were superb. The lamb disappointed as I hoped for juicy succulent meat, not the tired tough overdone portion that was sitting too long in the kitchen. The price was right and service was good. The stairs were hard to climb. The atmosphere was authenttic. A good cleaning is required.

I love this place for a fun date night! Great for vegetarians, they have many choices for non meat eaters! My Advice: Since it's near Granville Island I would stop by there for some ice cream and dine at Afghan on the way out! Perfect summer combo. For more info visit my blog! I have photos too.

In every restaurant experience I've ever had I can always find something to criticize. However tonight that changed. This is by far the best place I have ever go to dine. Not only is the atmosphere the most comfortable and cozy, the vibes were inviting you to come back before you even finished. The food was delectable as well as... More

Went for during the Dine-out Vancouver promotion in Jan. Place was very crowded, possibly because of the promotion. It is a restaurant with a great atmosphere, just outside Granville Island and yet I'd never seen it before; the restaurant itself acting like a mini museum of Afghanistan. The food was amazing! Portions are huge, so a three course meal is... More

What an experience! I've been here several times and always picked the rooms. In these rooms is where you get the authentic Afghan experience. The room is adorned with various Afghan artifacts and artwork, you sit with your party on the floor and eat from a low table. There will randomly be dancers that arrive and dance in the rooms... We had heard a lot about this restaurant but for some reason when visiting Granville Island always overlooked it, never again. The food is a blend of many cultures, Greek, Italian, Persian, Orient............. so many too try that we have to go back. There was four of us in our party and the food was out of this would nobody... More

Staying in Granville Island & Fairview

Neighborhood Profile
Granville Island & Fairview
One of the favoured neighbourhoods for a day out, Granville Island's packed theatres and art studios, hobby shops and book stores, restaurants and bars, all offer a plethora of activities and entertainment options, leaving no one bored. The highlight of the area is the Fisherman's Wharf, where the seagulls overhead and the smell of the sea invigorate its many visitors, some of who are there to shop the fresh wares at the public market, and others of whom have arrived to take in the eclectic atmosphere. A popular seafood destination, and Vancouver's leading spot for improv and amateur theatre, Granville Island is an indulgent, welcoming entertainment centre in any season or time of day.
