The Cafe on Water Street has window tables looking out at the historic steam clock! It was a rainy day in Gastown! The service was excellent and the food choices superb. I had baked salmon followed by a decadent bread pudding!

My dining companion had been to the Water Street Cafe twice before he thought to take me there. After my dinner on Friday night I want to make it "our restaurant" forever. The service was amazing--attentive yet discreet, personable and efficient. My appetizer, the Pan-Seared Fanny Bay Oysters was the star of the meal and something I can foresee having... More

Before coming to Vancouver I had already read about it, and when I saw the restaurant while we were trying to discover Gastown, it was a natural choice for us to have lunch there. The restaurant is just across the famous Steam Clock, so you'll probably have the opportunity to eat there while visiting Vancouver. The weather was rainy, and... More

While in town for business I was able to eat twice at the Water Street Cafe, once for lunch and dinner on my last evening in town. The lunch was so good I made it a point to return for dinner. For lunch I enjoyed two appetizers, both excellent. I had the gravlox with cream cheese and a side of... More

I discovered this place early in my stay and liked the look of it, it has also been around for a long time and had very good reviews. The service an ambience were first class. The meal was a bit of a letdown, particularly the main which was grilled local salmon. The salmon had been over cooked making it dry... More

We have been coming here for years...off and on...depending on life and kids! We went tonight and was nice to see some classics like the fanny bay oysters and top notch caesar salad, as well as linguine vongole...but also new twists to the menu. The room is warm and inviting and the entertainment is water street and all its activity!... More

My wife and I dined here on the last night of our stay in Vancouver, our first visit ever. We had walked round Gastown earlier in the day and liked the look so went in and reserved a table right by the window so we could see that amazing steam clock opposite strike each quarter hour. Service was first class... More

Staying in Gastown

Neighborhood Profile
Gastown
A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's history a more lively presence here than anywhere else. Having been originally founded around a popular worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of Vancouver's best micro-breweries, creative cocktail joints, and corner bars can be found in this area. Classical charm suffuses its many vintage boutiques and the brick-built structures that an army of creative professionals call home.
