If you can't make it to travel to Japan, please come here and have a authentic Japanese experience. From service to food this is truly revisiting Japan for my wife and me (actually we talked in dinner to go back to Japan!). In case you have been to Japan and miss it, come here and you will remember all your... More

We booked Tojo's for our special meal in Vancouver. My kids are usually fine with Sushi, but it was very pure play delicous but the kids were not convinced meaning it was all a little stressful. The food was brilliant and the man himself was there, I couldn't fault the service just was extra expensive with kids there and as... More

My boyfriend and I came here on a recommendation from a friend (it's about 15-25 minutes by train from downtown, depending on where you're coming from). We hear that Chef Tojo invented the California Roll, and it's gotten a lot of local culinary awards, so we wanted to try it. The sushi was good, but it wasn't outstanding, and the... More

I've been coming to Tojo for years every time I travel to Vancouver from Sydney. We eat lots of Japanese in Australia, every day in fact, but there is no better. Authentic. Innovative. Friendly. I can find no fault.

Yes. It's expensive. If your idea of Sushi is a bento box from your local grocery store for $9 you're probably going to be upset. If you like all you can eat sushi, you're going to be upset. If you think all California rolls are the same - you're going to be upset. If you are looking for something different,... More

We were looking for something upscale for Japanese food and were disappointed. The place was very downscale, almost diner-isa inside. Our particular waiter was hard to understand and certainly did not understand us! Food came out at all different times and many times I had food and my wife had none - and we just were not able to get... More

Yes people will say its overrated, no locals would ever go there, its too expensive (It is). But if you are in Vancouver just go, it will be the best sushi experience you have ever had. It is a once in a lifetime experience to go where one of the early pioneers of Japanese food started. Just do it!

Are you kidding me? We had such high expectations for our visit. It faltered on so many levels. The atmosphere in there was dead. The place was packed but there was no life. For a place with such a famous owner, you would think that his character would carry the night. Nothing. The value proposition on the menu is beyond... More

My husband and I ate at Tojo's on June 29th. We were impressed. Service was great food was excellent. And we got to meet Tojo and have our picture taken with him. Was a great night. Be aware it is a costly night though!

Words are not enough to describe the excellence of food in this restaurant. It is by far the best Japanese food. The creativeness, uniqueness in presentation and amalgamation of tastes makes this a culinary experience like no other. Highly recommended.

Staying in Shaughnessy

Neighborhood Profile
Residential neighbourhood to the ultra-wealthy, the gorgeous manor houses centred around The Crescent area are a fabled sight to behold. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most verdant plotted neighbourhood, and its tree-lined streets, walking routes, bike trails, and charming public parks make for an ideal location to spend and afternoon communing with nature. Consequently, it is also the botanical centre of the city, featuring conservatories and an expansive Botanical Garden, taming and sculpting the wild into seasonal viewing areas and enchanting landscapes. Quiet, elegant Shaughnessy excels at providing the Three Gs: Gardens, Golfing, and Galleries.
