We popped in on a whim, having checked out a nearby cycle shop and needing to eat before heading to a concert. The restaurant was busy, orders were flying about in Japanese, and everyone there seemed to be relishing what they were eating. We sat at the bar to accommodate 5 of us. Sashimi was very fresh, the tuna melt... More

Even though I dined at closing the staff was gracious and kind. Everything i ordered was superb. I just wish the portions were bigger. Highly recommended.

overtime we are in Vancouver, we make a point of eating at Shiro's. We have been dining here for over 20 years and the food and service are consistently excellent

This is a good place. It's run by Japanese, not Chinese pretending to be Japanese. It's not pretentious at all; you get decent and authentic food in humble yet comfortable surroundings, and you will be treated with genuine friendliness. If you want a Bazooka Kamikaze Volcano roll or a San Francisco Pittsburgh Rainbow roll, go somewhere else, point being that... More

This is a great neighborhood restaurant with tasty sushi and cooked Japanese dishes for a reasonable price. Will definitely visit again.

I love Shiro. I’ve eaten there dozens and dozens of times over the past, I think, ten-plus years. Unlike the Seattle one that is very upscale-ish (and more expensive), the Vancouver Shiro (no relation, I don’t think) is less so, and is located in a strip mall that includes a doggy daycare as a neighbour. Awesome items that have been... More

We left a popular Indian restaurant because their arrogant attitude and a 45 minute wait made it easy to look for another place to eat, Shiro was right across the street. What a good decision that was. The staff were very welcoming and the ambiance was inviting. They prepare the sushi at a bar in the middle of the restaurants... More

Our annual Vancouver trip always contains a visit to Shiro's. It still serves excellent sushi and sashimi, comparable to restaurants around the world. The bento boxes are excellent. It does get busy, you can't make a reservation and there is limited parking. However it is well worth the wait and the tables turn around quickly.

Staying in Shaughnessy

Neighborhood Profile
Shaughnessy
Residential neighbourhood to the ultra-wealthy, the gorgeous manor houses centred around The Crescent area are a fabled sight to behold. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's most verdant plotted neighbourhood, and its tree-lined streets, walking routes, bike trails, and charming public parks make for an ideal location to spend and afternoon communing with nature. Consequently, it is also the botanical centre of the city, featuring conservatories and an expansive Botanical Garden, taming and sculpting the wild into seasonal viewing areas and enchanting landscapes. Quiet, elegant Shaughnessy excels at providing the Three Gs: Gardens, Golfing, and Galleries.
