We had a great dinner for our last night in Vencouver . The place, very nice and cozy, is not exactly a summer place , but you forget everything while they're preparing the delicious Ceasar's salade beside your table. The best ever. Canadian beef bone in rib was perfect for quality and grill technique. A special bonus for the cheese... More

A classic steak house, if not THE classic steak house n Vancouver. The great all ate here, Sammy David Jr., Frank Sinatra, etc. and you're great as well so you should too! good wine list - on expensive size. Not many choices below $40. Drink are nicely and properly served. If you like cold martini, specify cold. Cocktails around $19-22.... More

This was a classy place formerly. Service very slow. Caesar salad had way too much dressing. Servers were young and not organized. Asked them to turn off the loud old rock music. For $300 for two, you can do much better.

My sister and I took my brother here for his birthday and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. We ordered the cheese bread, it was soo good. The caser salad was fresh, the waiter prepared it right in front of us, which was nice and I have not seen that before. My brother... More

Great dinner. Service was perfect, very professional. Place has gone very high end since Reno and is very expensive now. Same prices as Gotham and Black and Blue. $55 for a steak wow. But, the place was packed so they are not suffering. Far different crowd from the days of Murray Pezim and J Bob Carter and the four martini... More

This place is the ultimate deal-making restaurant in town. It is hard to spot a table that isn't obviously occupied by monied business people discussing any and all aspects of business. The decor lends itself to that kind of atmosphere. They say it was updated and renovated but it still has the appearance of Hy's in the 70's. Still wonderful... More

Having not been back to Hy's in close to four years due to the mediocrity of the previous dining experiences, I thought that it was time to give the establishment another chance given the recent renovation: Well, the decor and the room are still the best exemplifying the "old word" steak house that it was built to be by Hy... We only visited for cocktails so went upstairs to the bar. Lovely ambience lots of wood ad leather and low lighting. Probably the best cocktails in town not cheap but then good cocktails never are. Service was outstanding and we'd like to compliment James who gave us a bit of history about the company and family. It was fascinating for... More

I first ate here 17 years ago, and back then it was excellent. But this time (June 2016) I felt as if it was under new management, because the service was not as good, and the food was very disappointing. It is a steakhouse, so I ordered a filet mignon, and asked for it to be cooked medium. The filet... More

Hy's has been Canada's first name in steaks since opening in 1955. For nearly 60 years the Hy's name has meant the finest Canadian beef and impeccable service in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Hy's is Canada's premiere steakhouse. We are Hy's, and proud of it, since 1955.

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
