The restaurant is currently running a 8 course Christmas Tasting Sampler with a minimum of 2 people at $25 each. A great way to get a taste of everything for those who love variety. Not so simple for vegetarians as there is chicken, pork and prawn. There are other items on the menu that will suit non-meat eaters. The 8... More

My first visit to Banana Leaf... well, it was the best of times, it was the blurst of times. Let me tell you the story. I was walking down the street one day in the rain - not an unusual occurrence in rainy Vancouver - when I happened upon this exotic, accommodating looking restaurant. It was Banana Leaf!! I came... A friend recommended this restaurant and he was so right. We had the nine course tasting menu and it was perfect. Great flavors, good pacing by the waiter, inexpensive. Portion sizes just right or I would have overeaten. We left happy.

We wanted a light dinner and we wanted to try something different and the mango kerabu salad along with hot & sour soup sounded good. The salad was excellent and it was unlike anything I've had in the past. The flavors and textures were good and the fresh fruit and vegetables were good. The server was on her game and... More

Wanting a lunch break away from the conference hotel, two of us headed for Denman, where there is no shortage of nice places to eat. Banana Leaf caught our eye and we were not disappointed. It would have been lovely to take the time to browse through the very enticing menu, but time being at a premium we selected a... More

My daughter in law's birthday dinner. We reserved a table by the window so we could have a view of the eclectic Friday night Denman crowd. Malaysian cuisine -- Lots of choices especially for vegetarians. We ordered the 9 course meal for 4. . . which was very ample for both couples. The food was less spicy than we were... More

They have plenty of share plates and combo plates that you can taste several types of the food on one plate. They have lots of seafood options and many dishes have calamari which my husband is allergic to, they don't allow substitutions but in this case they did allow it. You can choose the spicey level we just had the... More

I was unfamiliar with Malaysian food and my friend suggested we visit Banana Leaf and try the sampler dinner for two. The range of flavors was very nice, including coconut milk, curries, and spices (not very hot). We enjoyed ourselves very much and the intimate little space was great.

This little restaurant is one of many on Denman and is very popular with an excellent menu and service Solo diners are welcome and the ambience is cosy Could do with a wider choice of beers

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
