Once a year I come to Vancouver for the Canadian health fair and every time I have to have the Sunday buffet. The service is always excellent, and the food is scrumptious. I love the variety presented and if it's not on the menu they will make it for you. I have a few food sensitivities and these guys always... More

Dined here when staying at nearby Fairmont Waterfront. Lovely table for two by window with stunning views of harbour. Great service throughout. We had the very good value set three course menu. Only minor negative was that the amuse bouche was a delicious soup and that the first of the three courses was also soup. So perhaps a bit too... More

We enjoyed Five Sails as the seafood was fresh and tasty. The chef uses unique flavors to enhance traditional fresh seafood fare. We had the tuna starter which had wonderful flavors of grapefruit and avocado blended in a unique and tasty fare. We also tried the local salmon which lived up to the wonderful expectations--moist and flavorful!

Very nice place with excellent views. The service was excellent. But the food - we all did the set menu - was just ok. The wine list was also rather pedestrian. Worst problem was both were so overpriced that it leaves a bad taste. We had a Zin that costs less than $20 at home for $75 Canadian.

Classy decor with tasty gourmet dishes, but not snobby. We had the 7 course dinner with wine pairings, every course was beautifully displayed with fabulous taste to match. Was a great place to celebrate our anniversary, complete with a "happy anniversary" dessert. Thoroughly enjoyed watching float planes landing in the harbor followed by a beautiful setting sun.

Charming helpful service and excellent food. The view the across Vancouver Bay was amazing. The desserts are superb and the sommelier has been very helpful in choosing an appropriate wine from a large wine list. They are very accommodating with food allergies.

Set menu for a small group business dinner and found the food very good and the service attentive. The team as a whole enjoyed the set menu which was a scallops starter and then a choice of fish or lamb for main course and a nice desert. This place is inside the Pan Pacific hotel and has a nice view.

After 16 years in Vancouver, Five Sails is still one of my favourite restaurants. The food is amazing although the portions are small - most fine dining restaurants have small portions. The desserts are superb and the wine list is excellent. They are very accommodating with food allergies and substitutions. I highly recommend this restaurant for business meetings, dates and... This restaurant is located in The Pan Pacific Hotel where the ferry terminal is. There is a large parking structure there but would not be convenient if a ship is docked there. It was a bit of a challenge to figure out how to get to the restaurant after we parked but we finally found the correct door. I had... More

We celebrated our wedding anniversary and it was not only romantic with the ocean view but the food was superb from start to finish. Service was excellent and the dishes we selected were wonderful. They do have a few preset menus that ranged from $99 per person to $55 per person. We opted to go with the menu that included... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighborhood Profile
Vancouver's business district, the Downtown area is bustling with smartly-dressed folks balancing their lattes and briefcases to and from work. The area's plethora of contemporary commercial, residential, and corporate spaces has bred a landscape of nouveau restaurants, chain cafes, and upmarket shopping options. However, located right on the waterfront of Vancouver's energetic Harbour, Downtown is a also popular public meeting spot, with a massive public library and convention center attracting a bevy of visitors both local and not, as well as a hotspot for the arts, being home to some of Vancouver's most cutting-edge galleries. With behemoth architecture and a professional air, Downtown means business.
