The food is great. It's that simple. Prices are good considering the high quality of the food. The place is tiny and a bit cramped.

Wife and I have been there several times, always a great experience and last night was no exception. Great service (including the chef!), delicious food, good wine, romantic atmosphere and nice background at a nice sound level (a pet peeve of mine). Also, very good value.

My husband and I decided to venture out for a glass of wine and snack last night. El Matador was the place we chose. We quickly realized what a mistake we had made! The food is not that good, but the disgusting part was the waitress. The kitchen area is open to the restaurant so you can see what the... More

Hadn't been for awhile, but a group of us decided we were craving tapas and went for an early dinner. Apparently ownership has changed since the last time we were there. First, the menu: lots of the old favourites (chorizo puffs, crab tapas, prawns) but missing a few (and they were out of a lot, judging by the number of... More

El Matador is inconsistent; a funky little place with a limited tapas menu. Sometimes the food is great; sometimes they run out. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable; but when the restaurant is full, the service slows down badly. The sangria is good and drink prices are reasonable. The kitchen and service staff need to improve their processes and coordinate... More

We went to this restaurant as we recently returned from a trip to Barcelona and wanted to compare. The restaurant is tiny(I count 37/38 seats) but cozy. We had the Sangria which was OK but not spectacular but it was reasonably priced, albeit the glass was small. I would recommend that they increase the glass size and also the price.... More

We started with a large kiraff of sangria to decide if we wanted to get some tapas. The sangria wasn't great at all. We watched other people's food come and it all looked pretty underwhelming so we decided just to try dessert. We ordered a bread pudding dessert: $6 for three stale balls of bread not deserving of the title... More

We went to this restaurant in May for a late Mother's Day Dinner and had a fabulous time. The food was great, the sangria was delicious and the serving staff were attentive and accommodating. We did make reservations to ensure seating at the bench along the wall as the guest of honour -Mother, is over 80 years old and may... More

- very disappointed. ;( Our $60 was completely wasted. Having been to Spain for two weeks, we were looking for a good tapas place here and decided to go to this one after reading the reviews. We ordered 7 items and unfortunately they taste extremely bland in general and nothing like what we had in Spain. the flavour was not... More

A small venue tucked away close to Lonsdale Quay. An excellent menu with many tastes across the tapas palate. Quick, efficient and friendly service. Great local beer on tap and a solid wine list. Be sure to reserve for Friday/Saturday evening as this place fills up fast. Well worth the time to dine.
